Just had something big hit the roof! Not raining right now. Wind is up. They took the grid down around 3am (I got a text) so it was a controlled power outage for what ever reason. It was down for 15 min.
The governor has declared that all pets can be taken into the shelters. They are bringing the drooler (of course) lots of kitties in carriers - but reports last night said they have seen an iguana, a parakeet and a parrot - lol. This makes me so happy because a lot of people won't leave danger because they have to leave their family members (pets) and they just won't do it.
Rain total since 08/26 AM is 27.82 at the house.
Please keep first responders in your prayers. They are doing an amazing job. Lots and lots of helicopter rescues from roofs and balconies and from cars flooded and stranded on the roads. LEO's and FD's have lost vehicles trying to reach people.
They are going to do controlled water releases from two reservoirs this morning but until they do, the water in them is rising and flooding the houses behind the dams. These are flood control reservoirs and were built for this very purpose but they have never done a water release from them when Buffalo Bayou is above flood stage and over its bank - which means there will be even more flooding long this water shed. But they have to do it for the integrity of the earthen dams and it is better to do it controlled than to have the dams be compromised.
