Just had something big hit the roof! Not raining right now. Wind is up. They took the grid down around 3am (I got a text) so it was a controlled power outage for what ever reason. It was down for 15 min.

The governor has declared that all pets can be taken into the shelters. They are bringing the drooler (of course) lots of kitties in carriers - but reports last night said they have seen an iguana, a parakeet and a parrot - lol. This makes me so happy because a lot of people won't leave danger because they have to leave their family members (pets) and they just won't do it.

Rain total since 08/26 AM is 27.82 at the house.

Please keep first responders in your prayers. They are doing an amazing job. Lots and lots of helicopter rescues from roofs and balconies and from cars flooded and stranded on the roads. LEO's and FD's have lost vehicles trying to reach people.

They are going to do controlled water releases from two reservoirs this morning but until they do, the water in them is rising and flooding the houses behind the dams. These are flood control reservoirs and were built for this very purpose but they have never done a water release from them when Buffalo Bayou is above flood stage and over its bank - which means there will be even more flooding long this water shed. But they have to do it for the integrity of the earthen dams and it is better to do it controlled than to have the dams be compromised.

Keeping all the Gulf coast and especially Houston in our hearts and prayers :bighug:. Convoy of Hope left here in last few days . They are an awesome response group to add to those already on the ground . Praying especially for more boats to be able to get there ..saw there was great need for that . Stay safe and far from harm , Lizzie :bighug:

Glad to hear you are safe & dry, even the worst predictions underestimated the wrath of what Harvey would bring.
Water has receded overnight in a lot of areas. Currently raining but not hard. They are saying Cypress creek is 11' over its banks. I have no idea how they measure that- lol. Planning on going out to take some pictures in a little while.

Lots of good pictures here

Hang in there! This is just incredible to see. So glad that the shelters are letting people bring their animals with them. The NY Times this morning has a double video of the same streets shot in 2016 and today: side by side comparison. It is unbelievable!

Stay safe, guys!

Rain fall is currently 30.13. Still raining. We went out to the front of the neighborhood earlier this morning. The creek is amazing. Came back and bbq'ed some hamburgers and neighbors came over and I took a short nap. Wind is suppose to pick up tonight into tomorrow because the actual storm is getting closer so praying our power holds. Work has closed the offices again tomorrow. This is a truly historic event. The amount of water is mind boggling.

Video of the entrance to our sub-division. When I pan to the right - that is the creek. There is a bridge that is under water (we think, we couldn't tell for sure). I am standing in a small strip center that at the front.

I've been reading your updates and amazing you still have power. Glad you remain safe. DH is a weather channel nut so it's been on since Friday. Sure Gizmo loves having you home and wouldn't think about work anytime soon.

Please stay safe. There has been video on the news here of alligators, snakes and fire ants in the flood waters. There are a few FDMB members who have been posting on Facebook -- one whose apartment has been flooded and her upstairs neighbors have been a blessing. There have been crews from Ohio, including a group from our power company who have headed out to Houston. The first responders are incredible and so are the people of Houston who are helping each other.

There doesn't have to be flood waters for those issues. We have copperheads and coral snakes in our back yard. The flood waters put them in more contact with humans though.

We heard on the radio today that a guy who heard that some shelter animals were in danger took his canoe and brought them to safety.
There are so many stories like these. It is an amazing thing to watch. The local reporter's that are out in the mess are really making a difference. They broadcast a need and regular people are showing up to do what they can.

It is the elderly, sometimes in ill health, that is the heartbreakers. The kids are resilient, they will be ok, but the 80-90yo leaving their houses they have lived in for 50 years with nothing but a small bag and their pets is just hard to watch.

I've been thinking of you, Lizzie, and praying you and your family will stay safe. Thanks for keeping us updated. I heard a quote on the radio today: "What we are seeing in Texas is Mother Nature at her worst and human nature at its best".

And 2 more days of rain? Hang in there Lizzie :bighug:
Doing ok. Rain should let up tomorrow (I hope). Pray that we keep power. I have to bake bread for the neighbors tomorrow am. Grocery stores are out of everything. No bread, water, milk, etc. In fact, they shut the doors to all around here at 3pm today. Food and water is going to become a real issue for people who didn't prepare. We can do a lot from what we have in the freezer but electricity will make the whole thing a lot easier.
