Last week's panic-ridden blue post that ended well with green

After a stressful hour last week waiting for Ivana to drop out of the blues from a food spike, I made sure to wait until well after The Princess had eaten this morning to test her. Sure enough, green she was :D

No real news to report, except that we have a sick little chicken at the moment - Brandy, who we adopted from our neighbour about 6 weeks ago, has peritonitis :( If you know anything about chickens, you know that they hide their symptoms of illness until they're pretty much dead, so as soon as she displayed abnormal behaviour she was off to the vet. We were really worried as we've lost a few chickens in the past to peritonitis and egg-binding, and none of ours who have had her symptoms actually pulled through. Even the vet warned us to be prepared. So we're amazed and ecstatic that a week after she fell ill, she's still with us and feeling much better! Three different medications twice a day, being separated from the other birds, and sleeping inside with us seems to have helped, and she's still on antibiotics for another week. Here's a pic from last night of Ivana showing Brandy what she thinks of her (hubby had just finished giving Brandy her meds):

Hope all kitties and beans are doing well :-)

Awww, Ivana! I know there's a chicken in your papabean's lap, where you belong, but cut her some slack. She's sick. You know you are the apple of your beans' eyes! Don't stop keeping Mama on her toes - but it's good you threw her a bone with that green number. ;)

Sending healing vines for poor Brandy. She is one lucky chicken!

Brandy must be getting better because Ivana is not watching over her like she did with your other chicken. Great news that Brandy is doing better and Ivana is doing so well.

We were just talking about this the other night - Chardonnay, the chicken we lost a few months ago, is the only chicken who Ivana has ever shown an interest in. We've had several other chickens in the house before, but she has never done the sleeping underneath them thing that she did for Chardy. Just goes to show that animals pick up on individual personalities too, and obviously Chardy was Ivana's favourite - so lovely :-)

Great job nursing Brandy back on the recovery road. Vines she gets all the way there soon.

Had to giggle at the picture. Ivana....just because you can't see her doesn't mean she's not there!

I just realised (from looking at my Faccebook "On This Day" thing), that today is one year since Ivana was diagnoses with diabetes. She sure has come a long way in that time, getting herself into remission in 7.5 months. It's been a rocky year and we're not through it all yet due to the stupid CKD, but goodness she's doing so much better than we ever thought :D:D:D
