Last Night:
482 PMPS (TOR)
378 +4

I didn't give J.D. his 50mls of fluids at 10:00pm, but got up at 3:15am and gave them then.

He ate some cat treats at his first test this morning.

He did not poo yesterday, but I could tell last night he really wanted to. He pooed a smallish hard poo this morning. On our second walk, he pooed a little more but I did not have a napkin and did not test it for softness as he did it in the woods.

For vet appointment in 90 minutes from now:

Were there any notes on the ultrasound regarding J.D.'s kidneys?
Can we do a C & S now?
When are we going to test for Potassium?
Can we also test for Magnesium, please?
Can you have extra potassium added to his fluids?
How long should we stay on the Flagyl?
Is Cerenia okay everyday, or should I do 5 days on 2 days off?
What does ABN on the blood work mean in regards to Hemolysis and Lipemia?
What is his temperature?
What is his heart rate?
I would like his next blood test to be a fasting one, to test for cobalamin and another Spec fPL.

Dehydration Symptoms:
Sunken Eyes
Lethargy
Loss of Appetite
Dry Mouth
Depression

Elevated Heart Rate - will have vet check that
Decreased Skin Elasticity
Panting - None
Teeth Grinding

Low Potassim Symptoms:
Vomiting - None
Lethargy
Loss of Appetite
Weight Loss
Loss of Muscle Mass
Muscular Weakness
Downward Drooping of Neck
Increased Urination
Increased Thirst
Stilted Gait in Front Legs
Constipation

Please wish us luck. I hope his vet is willing to give us a chance to get this potassium and dehydration under control.

Re: 08/18 J.D. +1.75 542, +3.75 302 - Vet Vines Needed

Thank you for the Good Vet Vines :YMHUG:

He ate some cat treats at his AMPS test and his +3.75, and then he ate some MC FF Medleys on his own and didn't just lick at the juices.

I need to go blow dry my hair, and then we are off.

Wish Us Luck.

Re: 08/18 J.D. +1.75 542, +3.75 302 - Vet Vines Needed

Sending tons of vetty vines for sweet J.D. I haven't posted, but have been lurking and following his story. You've been dealing with so much Dyana, what a wonderful mamabean you are.

Re: 08/18 J.D. +1.75 542, +3.75 302 - Vet Vines Needed

I see no update yet, so I'll just send some general purpose good vines. Thinking of you and J.D. I'm glad he ate on his own this morning, even if it was just a little.

Re: 08/18 J.D. +1.75 542, +3.75 302 - Vet Vines Needed

Sending some more good vetty vines your way, and hope the vet has some answers for you.

Hope to hear something soon Dyana...and that it's good news

J.D. ate some MC when we got home from the vet (not a lot, but a little, and out of a cat bowl).

I got a phone call that company was coming over right when we got home, so I had to clean up the house a little.

Were there any notes on the ultrasound regarding J.D.'s kidneys? both normal size and have a thickened and hyperechoic cortex (the vet said it meant they were fiberous?)
Can we do a C & S now? Yes, and we did. Results in 5 to 7 days.
When are we going to test for Potassium? Tested, will know results tomorrow (for Sodium, too).
Can we also test for Magnesium, please? Tested, will know results tomorrow.
Can you have extra potassium added to his fluids? He already has Potassium in his fluids (Lactated Ringers).
How long should we stay on the Flagyl? Keep giving it, for now.
Is Cerenia okay everyday, or should I do 5 days on 2 days off? You can give it everyday.
What does ABN on the blood work mean in regards to Hemolysis and Lipemia? She will have a vet. tech. call IDEXX and ask, and let me know what they say, when she calls me with the blood test results.
What is his temperature? 100.4. I asked if this was low and she said normal is between 100 and 102 for a cat.
What is his heart rate? About 120. I told her he was 140 the last time with her, and 180 with Dr. B last Tuesday. She laughed and said J.D. probably didn't know him (which he doesn't).
I would like his next blood test to be a fasting one, to test for cobalamin and another Spec fPL. Okay. We'll make an 8:30am appointment.

Dehydration Symptoms:
Sunken Eyes
Lethargy
Loss of Appetite
Dry Mouth
Depression

Elevated Heart Rate - will have vet check that
Decreased Skin Elasticity
Panting - None
Teeth Grinding

Low Potassim Symptoms:
Vomiting - None
Lethargy
Loss of Appetite
Weight Loss
Loss of Muscle Mass
Muscular Weakness
Downward Drooping of Neck
Increased Urination
Increased Thirst
Stilted Gait in Front Legs
Constipation

All of the above can be a sign of old age, too.

J.D. ate some more MC out of a cat bowl shared with Ginger when my company was over. I don't think he ate much, but he ate. When company left, he ate some more MC with FF Kibble on top and mostly ate the Kibble. We just got back from our 5th walk for the day, and he ate a little more MC.

I didn't give him quite as much syringes of food as would normally want to in the morning, as I didn't want his tummy to be super bloated at the vet, and since he has since eaten a decent amount, for him, recently, I did not give him the two syringes that are warming in a cup. Tomorrow when I go back to work, he's going to have to fend for himself when he gets hungry anyway, and I like seeing him eat a little.. Selfish me will be more comfortable tomorrow, knowing he is eating.

J.D. was quite social and walking all over the place when company was over.

I told the vet that I would try Budesodine or Predisolone (or however to spell them) before I give up on J.D. and she mentioned another steriod? antibiotic mix that had a "z" somewhere in it, but I forgot the name as soon as she said it. I will ask her tomorrow and write it down and research it.

J.D. is settled in his big doggy bed, and I am finally going to take a nap, I hope

All in all, so far a good report! It's wonderful that J.D. is taking himself to the cat bowl and eating on his own!!! I hope he continues to do that.

Sending good vines for the rest of the test results, and more good appy vines.

I love that despite the vetty visit today, J.D. was social and comfortable with your guests. :-D
What a sweet kitty.
Keep eating, J.D.! :YMHUG:

Zener had been on budesonide, 1 ml BID of 1 mg/ml concentration. It seemed to work for a while but is losing its effectiveness and his appetite has been lagging lately. We just switched to prednisolone, 0.5 ml BID of 5 mg/ml concentration, then tapering as we can. Tillie is also on prednisolone (0.25 ml per day) and Cerenia (4 mg, 3X per week) and that works well for her. Tons of vines for J.D. and you.

Hi Dyana,
J.D. Must have been happy to come home to a party. He has a lot of spunk. I hope the test results will be in a good range. Sending lots more vines to your guy.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

JD you are too sweet! Such a good boy to visit with the company today after such a trying day at the vetty's cat_pet_icon
