Try not to get hang up on a dose.
Tanya is right, being that he get's dry that put's you in the category of following SLGS, as per those guidelines, that would see you hold the dose for a week, running a curve on one of those days and then if you don't see anything below 150 you would take the dose up.
I would take his dose up to 6u. I'll explain my reasoning.
If you think of the dose increase in terms of % a 0.5u increase when he's on 5.5u is a little under 10% increase.
Consider a cat whose on 2U and takes a .25u incease, in terms of % that's an increase of approx 12%.
However taking up Buddy up by ).25u would equate to a %increase of a little under 5%, from the experience on the board this usually isn't enough of an increase to make a difference to BG, this can risk Buddy spending longer than necessary in higher numbers, leading to glucose toxicity, which can then in turn make it harder to get his BG into a better range.
He only appears to have seen a mid blue once in the last 9days, I think that gives you room to take him up to 6u, unless you see low blues in the next few days.
NB with the pancretitis, I would keep up on the monitoring for ketones, especially if he goes off his food, you may need to increase the dose sooner than the 7 days if ketones start showing up.
