J.D. got more fluids this morning as his fur was slow to go back down when I lifted it up to test it for hydration this morning.

He got four 10ml syringes of HC Friskies with beef bone marrow that was blended in, and he got two 10ml syringes of Iams Maximum Calorie. The folks on the Feline Pancreatitis Support Group are thinking that the Iams MaxCal may just have too much fat in it for J.D., contrary to what is believed that cat with pancreatitis can handle more fat than dogs (or humans) with pancreatitis.

He has an appointment with his regular vet, tomorrow morning. The vet we saw yesterday was not his regular vet, and he gave (sold) me some Reglan to take home but said to "keep it in my back pocket" for now. I just found out that it has a Black Box Warning, so I will be talking to his regular vet about that and about fluids and hopefully about some suggestions on food. He has been sleeping a lot. Thus drinking less.

Back to work..

I hope the fluids help J.D. feel better. Sending good vetty vines for tomorrow. I didn't know Reglan had a black box warning.

Should I give him some fluids? The vet last night said to test his fur and if it's slow to go down to give him some more tonight. He's not drinking water that I see. He went to his water bowl and stopped, looked, and walked on. He's not drinking from his water fountain. He's peeing, but smaller amounts. I could syringe water like I do when I give him his Miralax but a lot of it drips out his mouth. He did have 3 hardish and smallish stools today. Should I up his Miralax? He is getting 1/4 BID. Doesn't Miralax need extra water? The vet we saw yesterday said to give him 100ml this morning, which I did and to give him another 100ml tonight if he needs them. Mostly, he just wants to sleep.
Since I am off for the next 5 days, I can give him his buprenex TID instead of BID but that will stop him up even more.

I just think he needs water. What do you guys think?

Hi Dyana

Regarding the fluids....I do better to feel their gums. If it's tacky or sticky then they are dehydrated. I'm not good with determining dehydration with the fur test.

Feel his gums about 8 hours after you give fluids to get an idea of what it feels like when he is hydrated.

Hope this helps.
