Hello

Here is yesterday:

https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...0-7-270-pmps-182-8-5-203.280198/#post-3093033

Was concerned he wasn't all that interested in food @ 6:00 am when I tested him so I rubbed Mirtazapine in his ear. By AMPS he was somewhat interested and then with a little coaxing ate the whole bowl.

He was also seeming distressed at 6:00 am when i tested so I called the clinic and spoke to one of the vets who had cared for him and asked if giving him Gabapentin was appropriate or suitable to smooth out the edges and she agreed. So, I gave Eddie 75mg Gaba (he's a big boy; she said 100 was ok but I don't want to push it).

His distress is evident in that he will not eat his food in the place he's been having it for years. As it was, he ate half the food on the little carpet where he gets tested and then the other half on his bed where I gave it to him when he retreated from the kitchen.

Is he getting anti nausea meds too? Cerenia or ondansetron. You don’t want to give an ally stimulant to a nauseous cat without dealing with the nausea first.

Yes, I've given him a Cerenia. Because we are dealing with tablets + pill pockets, I have to be strategic so he will eat them... He is still on the Clavaseptin they put him on after last week's clinic stay. I wonder if that's upsetting his stomach. I wish I could suspend that...

We had the same eating pattern. It's so strange. He comes out voluntarily to sit on the little rug to get tested (note: I tested him only twice today; am trying to not stress him more than is necessary); he takes a bit of pill pocket. I get his food ready: he will not go to where he once ate but he'll eat some on the rug where testing happens; then he walks away and I have to follow him to his bed and he'll take some more but I have to keep mounding it in the bowl. At least I got insulin into him before he left the rug.

He is doing great at kittyboxing, though, I'm relieved to say. So I hope we can keep this part up. I'm to take him to the clinic tomorrow to get a lesson on giving sub-q fluids, which I've never done before!

He seems very alert to sound; he will stop whatever he's doing if he hears anything in the house. I believe he is waiting for Blue.

But here we are PMPS 304...oh, boy.

Since he’s on an antibiotic, you might want to add a probiotic to his food, a couple hour apart from the AB.

As long as I can keep him eating, I'll try adding that to the mix as well.

But I'm really concerned: PM +9 391. Are we headed back up to the hyperglycemia again? I know the point of 4u is to keep him safe after the last swing but I'm worried we're now too low again.

Is there no balance to be had??

My answer from when he was in the hospital about dose still holds. 5 units was not enough as a pet sitter dose last week, don’t be afraid to increase. Provided you can monitor. You have to get those mid cycle tests. No skipping tests to spare him stress. It is a safety thing.

Yes, I can monitor. So all is well. Hoping he thinks food is a good thing. Thanks, Wendy.
