Last Night:
466 PMPS
444 +3.5
410 +7.25
397 +9.25

J.D.'s eating was off last night, so I syringed some MaxCal. I fell asleep on the couch as is my usual and found J.D. curled up in my arm when I woke around midnight. When I got up to go to bed and he jumped off the couch he fell and when he walked his right leg was all wobbily again. He is walking a little better but barely walking.

I syringed more MaxCal this morning as his appetite is still off. Ketones - Negative. He got all his meds.

J.D. could use some vines today to feel better, walk better, eat better. Please.

I think I'm going to leave lots of little bowls of food out. I hope his BGs come down (nice and slow) today.

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458

Tons and tons of vines and prayers for J.D.....do you think maybe he could have a muscle pull or injury in his right leg (as opposed to it being something chronic, like arthritis)? He's on the ABs right now, isn't he? That could be messing with his appy and how he's feeling. Poor guy. Feel better J.D....and eat up!

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458 some BW results

BUN slightly improved 54 (was 58 in May)
Creatinine 1.9 (was 2.0 in May) Reference Range 0.9 - 2.5
Phosphorus fine (didn't get the number, just the "fine")
RBC the same, when questioned, she said slightly lower (was 5.98 in May) Reference Range 7.12 - 11.46
Spec fPL 12.4, she said I could test for this again in two weeks if I want.

I just hope he's feeling better now and walking around and eating today.

I'll pick up the paperwork after work.

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458 - some BW results

Aw, sorry to hear that J.D. is not up to par this morning. I hope he just hurt his leg when he jumped and that it is nothing more serious that that.
Tummy problems and having no appy could be from the AB's.

Blood work sounds pretty goo so far. I hope the rest of the report is good.

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458 - some BW results

Sending prayers for J.D's leg. I know he likes to take those walks. And for his appetite... Hugs to you too Dyana. You work so hard to make J.D. feel happy and comfortable.

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458 - some BW results

Adding prayers for J.D.'s appy and leg. I hope he's feeling better this evening. I'm glad the b/w results you got were good.

Re: 07/08 J.D. AMPS 458 - some BW results

Adding more vines for JD and hope whatever is going on with his leg improves soon Dyana!

J.D. probably has a right to hate me after all the meds and syringing and bath he got this evening.

He must have laid in something stinky, so he got another bath (and towel dry and blow dry). He got his Azodyl and some cypro and onda at PMPS. Ate his 1st Dinner at +1. Had a softish but formed poo and then stinky pudding diarrhea. He got 1 Flagyl (for the diarrhea), and he got his ear cleaned. He got his herbal medicine. He got some more blow drying. He got syringed some MaxCal with a Nutrived that I tried to disolve in it (which he hated). He got some bupe. He got his Quadritop (ear medicine). I think all he has left is his Orbax (ABs). At first he was trying to get away from me, but right now he is laying next to my feet.

Tomorrow is his last day of Orbax, so that is good.

Okay, here goes the blood work.
Anyone have experience with low RBC and HGB and hight MCV?
I hope this is readable (it's more readable in the tab in my spreadsheet).

Serum Spec fPL concentration is consistent with pancreatitis. The cat most likely has pancreatitis. Consider investigating for risk factors and concurrent diseases (e.g. IBD, Cholangitis, Hepatic Lipidosis, Diabetes Mellitus). Periodic monitoring of Spec fPL may help assess response to therapy.

His creatinine has gotten lower. Is that good or bad? I forget.
If it's good, that's good. His Bun also went down a bit as well as his phosphorus.

Off to bed for us, and some snuggeling, I hope. I'll check back for any replies tomorrow.

Thanks for all the well wished. J.D. just seems weaker in the hind leg, since I noticed it was his right one.
I am planning to try not to let him jump down from the couch if I can help it.

Night.

Hi Dyana,
I'm sure that J.D. appreciates all that you are doing for him, even though it involves all those meds! Nice to be getting off the Orbax!

I know little about the lab values. However, several weeks ago Ann (Tess) sent me a link to feline bloodwork that I found very interesting. Here it is:
http://zimmer-foundation.org/sch/ajf.html

I hope that you and J.D. will get some good sleep tonight and that his leg will be stronger tomorrow.

Vines are on the way,

Ella & Rusty

the pancreatitis probably explains a lot of his issues - the lack of appy, etc.

sending feel-better vines to the little guy! and a big hug to you. :YMHUG:

I'm sorry JD is not feeling well and he hurt his leg. Sending many healing vines for him.

His low RBCs and hemoglobin indicate anemia. Anemia can be non regenerative or regenerative. CKD cats typically have non regenerative anemia. The interesting thing is his MCV (mean cell volume or the measure of the red blood cell size) seems to indicate regenerative anemia...but maybe not if his B12 and folic acid is low.

From Tanya's on MCV:
If your cat's MCV is high, the red blood cells are larger than normal. Newly formed red blood cells are usually larger than normal, so this might be a sign that your cat's anaemia is regenerative. High MCV may occasionally may be seen in cats with hyperthyroidism. High MCV levels may also indicate a lack of Vitamin B12 and folic acid (Vitamin B9) - in these cases, the anaemia is most probably non-regenerative.

I think his creatinine is basically the same and is stable...good news :-D

Did the vet check his cobalamin and folic acid levels when she checked the spec fPL?
