413 PMPS
397 +2
297 +5.25
165 +9.5

J.D. didn't eat that much last night, but he ate a lot yesterday during the day, so I wasn't too concerned. He did share 1/4 can of FF with Ginger at +9.5 last night.

This morning, he had a perfect poo, and ate his 1st Breffis and now he seems to feel not so good, like he has a tummy ache. I gave him some Cerenia this morning with some Cyproheptadine at AMPS. A half hour later I gave him some bupe. I gave him some bupe last night too. My bupe is dated 09/2013, is it still good?

I just hate seeing him like this :( I added some EVO kibble to his 2nd Breffis and he ate a bite. I added some MC FF Medleys mixed in and he ate a bite. Maybe, I shouldn't have given him his regular dose. Ug! I hope he is okay.

Please send tummy feel better and appetite vines to J.D.

Thanks :YMHUG:

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Sending a ton of feel good tummy vines to JD. I hope he is just having an off day and will be back to his happy self tonight.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

I'm no expert on bupe, but when Trix was first diagnosed with her p-titis I asked the vet how long the pre-filled syringes of bupe would last and she said if I kept them in a drawer (ie, in the dark), they would be good for 3-4 weeks. But that is really it for my bupe experience. Maybe you should get some new bupe, just in case.

Sending tons and tons of prayers for J.D. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Vines for J.D. and vines for you. Bupe does have an expiration date. Is 9/2013 the expiration date or the issue date? It probably is expired.

(((Dyana)))
I'm sorry J.D. isn't feeling so good.
Sending many many feel better vines to him.

Lucy often acts like she doesn't feel so well after eating.
She is happy and eats good, and about 20 minutes after eating, she doesn't look too comfy.
Then about 2 hours later, she's happy and wants more food.
So, I think maybe her tummy feels bloated and makes her uncomfortable.
She has IBD so maybe doesn't digest food well, and maybe that might be causing it.
I don't thinks she's nauseated or in pain, but bloated/uncomfortable.
I'm working on figuring out how to help this....
Maybe J.D. is feeling the same?

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

It does sound like a pancreatitis attack. I'm sorry to see it. My vet told me that the bupe will still be good much after the expiration. The worst that will happen is that it will be weaker. Are the eyes dilated? If not you can give a little more than normally. If it doesn't work at all it is too old. Of course by the time I asked about it, I already had thrown out the old stuff. I have used older bupe and it did work. Sending healing vines your way.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

the vet gave us a vial of bupe that we could put the oral syringes in to fill ourselves. we kept the bupe in the fridge. we also had injectible bupe eventually, instead of the oral. they both lasted a long time and seemed to still be effective.

sending feel better vines to our little buddy. i hope he ate today. cat_pet_icon

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193, +4.5 180 Vines Please

I had two vials (with just little itty bits in them that the vet gives me) dated sometime in 2012 and the third had a prescription date (I think) or 09/2013. So, it's 8 or 9 months old.
This morning he acted fine and then ate and then didn't act so fine. He kept laying half way into his big doggy bed with his front feet in and his back feet outside and his tummy pressed against the soft fleece covered ridge of the bed.
I gave him MC and I gave him EVO kibble and I gave him HC and he would only take a bite of each.

So, I ran home at +4.5 and he was 180, and laying a little more comfortably (all the way inside) his big doggy bed. He refused baby food and he refused HC, so I syringed about 1/6th can of MaxCal, and went back to work. He has a vet appt. at 3:45pm. So, I'll get some more bupe then.

Please feel better J.D. cat_pet_icon

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

I was told to keep bupe in a dark place and was even given a dark bag to keep it in. I find it interesting that you kept it in the fridge, Julie. I'm going to ask about that.

I hope JD is feeling better soon.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Sending tummy vines from the west coast! I hope he feels better soon. Our prefilled syringes last about 4 months. This time the vet gave us a small vial that she said would last a lot longer, no expiration date on it though. We also keep ours in the fridge, it's dark and cold usually keep most things longer. Plus the kittehs pretty much have a shelf to themselves now!

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

I just googled buprenex and it says to store in dark place at room temp. I'm going to ask my pharmacist cousin.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Adding on vines for sweet J.D. I hope he gets it turned around and feels better soon.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Tons of vines for JD. I hope he starts to feel much better today.

I've had some compounded bupe with flavoring that had to stay in the frig and other, injectable, that did not but it was in a dark bottle and stayed in a dark drawer.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Yet more tummy and feel better vines going out for JD. I hope you have a good vetty visit today.

Like Marje, I also have compounded chicken flavor bupe and it is to be kept refrigerated and is in a dark bottle. When vetty called the compounding pharmacist they were told it is good for three months, which is why I got a prescription for a three month supply.

When either Theo or Neko's vetty has given me plain bupe in oral syringes, it was in an envelope and had to be kept in a dark place.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

My vet has bupe that needs to be kept in the fridge and also one that doesn't, regardless of with/without flavoring.
So I guess there are more than one kind?

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

FDMB was a real pain to get into just now.

J.D. got some fluids at the vet. His tempurature is normal and his gums are pink and his heart rate is fine. The vet thought he was a little dehydrated, and said I could give him 150 ml? tonight and call him on Thursday. I told him that I have only give 100 once and 50 once and that was a long time ago, and I guess I had the eyes, because he did the fluids for me...just squeezing the bag hard.
He said that the buprenex should be fine still, and that I don't want to give him so much that I make him drowzy sp?

I told him that I have always given Ondansetron and Cyproheptadine in the past and bupe as needed, and that I had given him Cerenia instead on Sunday and this morning (I forgot yesterday). He said to go back to what has worked in the past, so I will give Ondansetron instead of Cerenia. And, I hope he wants to eat soon.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Oh, I'm glad that worked (posted).

He eats treats fine. I just need to get him to eat food. I hope the Cyproheptadine works better tonight.

I think I will give his shot a little bit early tonight, and then go back to work.

The vet also gave me some Orbax pills that I am to give him once a day.

Re: 06/10 J.D. AMPS 193 Vines Please

Orbax is an antibiotic, isn't it? Did he say why he needs an antibiotic? When Tiffany was nauseous she would sometimes eat treats but nothing else. Max stopped eating canned food when he got pancreatitis, ate dry for a while, and then stopped eating. I think it is nausea because once on the right med for it and right dose, he ate well again. I'm glad nothing else showed up.

Yes, Orbax is an antibiotic. He said it was because the pancreatitis can cause other organs to have problems.

I gave him cypro and onda at +11.5. J.D. ate a couple measley bites of FF Chunky Chicken and licked a little teeny bit (maybe a teaspoon) of warmed up baby food chicken with broth. I gave him his Orbax, and syringed a little MaxCal. He is outside on the deck giving himself a bath.

Maybe, I shouldn't go back to work. I will just be exhausted. And, I can keep trying to feed him. I don't know. Maybe I'll go, and maybe he'll eat when I get home.

Hey!

Feel better little belly of JD's! Don't make that Fancy Feast feel all lonely and rejected by not gobbling it up! I do want to congratulate you though, on that perfect poo this morning. Hip Hip Poo Ray!

Thinking of you, always.

Rebekah

]Eat yer fuds, J.D. A kitty can't live on treats alone, ya know.

Hi Dyana, I hope that J.D. Is feeling better this evening. Good idea not to go back to work. Lots of vines are on the way.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Just checking in to see how Mr. JD was doing. Sounds like a pretty rough day for you guys. I hope J.D. starts to feel better and you don't have to worry to much. Did you make it back to work??

I also had a rough time getting into FDMB today throughout the day.

I did go back to work for only almost 2 hours. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and bought some thinly sliced "Deli" cooked ham. He ate some of that. Baby steps. He only would lick at some fishy fancy food I brought home from PetsMart. I syringed about 1/6th can of MaxCal when I got home at +3.5, and am about to do another now at +4.25. I don't want to mix food he will eat willingly with the syringed food, so am trying to space them apart. It will be harder in the morning when I have so little time.

Can I give more cyproheptadine than 1/4 pill BID?

We need continued appy and feel better vines over here, please.

He did poo. He had a real dance trying to get the first bit out, and then later, pooed a nice decent poo. I have added Miralax to his MaxCal.

Keep us in your prayers, please.

Hi Dyana. Yes, you can give more than 1/4 cyproheptadine BID. Has it ever worked for you before? I ask because it doesn't have the appetite stimulating effect in all cats. It works really well for Max. As big as he is he only needs 1/8 a pill but my vet prescribed 1/2 BID. The last time I had to use it I noticed mine had expired and of course it was a holiday. I coaxed the pharmacist into admitting that it wouldn't hurt him but might not be as potent so I gave more. He became quite vocal. When I got the new script filled I realized that he just needed a few doses to get back to normal and could have used the original bottle. So don't worry if JD gets vocal. You won't get the seratonin reaction that mirt can give. Cypro is the anecdote for mirt which is one reason why I prefer it. I hope it helps.

My vet actually prescribed 1/2 cypro BID for Trix, and for Noah last fall when he needed it. I did give them both much less than that; for Noah, 1/8 worked nicely; Trix had a bad reaction between the cypro and her BP meds, and on top of that I think she was one of those cats who doesn't respond to its appy-stimulating effect. I also did read somewhere, when Trix was first diagnosed with the p-titis, that it can actually take a couple days for the cypro to really take effect...but I can't remember where I saw that.

Continuing to send prayers!

Many, many vines for you and J.D. We give 1/8 of a cypro BID to Zener. The original prescription was 1/2 to 1 pill every couple of days.
Liz

Thanks. I know about the Serotonin syndrome with mirtz, so prefer cypro, too. Sometimes it seems to work better than others.

He just ate a small plate of EVO Kibble!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to sleep with a smile on face tonight :)

Good night friends :YMHUG: Thanks for the vines. I was almost ready to cry earlier, and I guess I still am. Thank you so much.

I'm sure that you, J.D. and Ginger are in dreamland now, but I am sending healing and appy vines to J.D. so he has them waiting for him in the morning. Prayers, too. I know how scary it is when they won't eat and you run out of ideas to help them. We're all here for you and we're pulling hard for J.D.

I hope you get a good night's sleep and things look better in the morning. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Manga, J.D.!!!
