05/22 KB's AMPS 114, and adequan question...

Back from a week away. KB did fine while we were away, even had a couple of blues. This morning started with a green but I didn't hoot for a little bit so AMPS was low blue.

you think he doesn't play much totally cause of back/legs or do you feel there might be some cardiac reason factoring into that? has he ever had 'acro organ size check' x-rays? just thinking out loud, he certainly is not one with a lot of GH output so i wouldn't expect to see big changes with him anyways.

His back legs seem to propel him onto forbidden surfaces just fine, but that is 9/10 determination. He has had some muscle waste in the hind quarters, which has greatly improved, but I think his front legs and shoulders take the brunt of his weight. He runs nicely if he's not near the feeder when it goes off, but normally takes alot of smaller steps. I asked for a whole body xray to check for organ issues when he had his dental earlier this year and the vet said everything looked great. I will see if I can get a copy, I don't think they're digital though.

Question about adequan - how frequently should I be giving him a maintenance dose?

Tizon's cartrophen (adequan-like) maintenance dose is monthly.

I give generic Adequan to my drooler, and it's supposed to be "as-needed" for the maintenance dose, which I usually give about every 4 weeks.

We were giving Blackie adequan every 3 weeks, but our vet told us we should be doing it every 4 weeks. We also give him gabapentin and Dasuquin for his arthritis.

Strange curve, if you can call it that. I was thinking last night I'd be raising his dose, then saw the 87 before AMPS.

Thanks for everyone's comments on the adequan. Wasn't sure if it was 4 or 6 weeks and somewhere had seen something like "as needed".
