J.D. ate okay last night. And he did a perfect poo in the middle of the night. Which I think that's why he woke me up by jumping on me, for his praising afterwards.

I gave him some Cyproheptadine and Ondansetron this morning. He shared a bowl of food with Ginger for 1st Breffis. I took about 3/4 cans of LC FF (left over from cans opened last night) and added a teaspoon of HC with some warm water.
We went for a nice walk this morning. J.D. ate some more after the walk and is now laying next to my bed.

Hoping and praying for good blood work results, today. Knock On Wood.

Wishing you all a good day.

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

The vet called around 10, and said the blood work was pretty good. This is what I remember, blood glucose 220ish, Bun 58, Creatinine 2.2, USG 1.022, and red blood cells were a little low again and a word that ends with crit, I think was low.
She suggested supporting? his red blood cells with a vitamin that has iron in it. She actually checked out a few types of vitamins for us and said they had sugar in them, so is recommending Nutrived which she said was a chewable pill and would be SID. I will pick up J.D.'s test results and vitamins, today after work. I am cat sitting, starting tonight, for my neighbor's cats, so will try to post the BW results and such between that and sleep ;-)

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

Wonderful BW report for J.D.! I think the "crit" word is "hematocrit", which I believe indicates how well he's producing red blood cells....but don't take my word for it. I'm sure someone else better versed in BW can answer more clearly!

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

Low B12 can also cause low hematocrit.

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

Yay for a good BW report, and yay for eating well and good poo! :-D

I hope the supplement helps and the next BW report is excellent.

Your neighbor is lucky to have such a knowledgeable and caring cat sitter.

Have a great day, Dyana.

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

Yay for good b/w results. I hope the vitamin helps J.D. Yay for good poo and good eating.

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

Overall good results on the BW!

If you do start giving something with iron in it, don't be surprised if the poo changes color. Adding iron can make it darker..more black colored

I think it's hilarious when our kitties "announce" they've left us a poo present...LOL

Hope you've had a nice Tuesday, Dyana!

Re: 05/13 J.D. AMPS 332, +1.5 332 a little vet update

i'm very sorry. Shelly has just announced that Calypso swallowed 5 live mice and that's why the x-ray showed 5 skeletons. there are apparently no kittens. ;-) i've now been watching this silly cat (who i'm coming to adore!) since SATURDAY and there are STILL NO BABIES! :-D of course you know i'm kidding, although shelly did say that!

Did the vet say JD is anemic? I think that's what the red blood cell count/hematocrit is indicating, but of course, i'm not a vet.

enjoy the kitty sitting! and watching Calypso!

Hi Dyana,
I am always puzzled by all those test abbreviations, but it looks like the results are pretty good. Someone with good knowledge of such things should be able to help you figure them out.

Have a fine evening. Good job, J.D.!

That HCT is not low if I am reading it right that it is over 32%. I would ask about B12 and B complex first. Be aware that iron taken if there is an infection should be avoided. Nutrived is pretty high in iron. It can also cause constipation. Many vets don't know that they can test to see if the iron level is low. I learned that with Tiffany but unfortunately once I got the results my vet didn't know how to interpret them. I didn't know Nutrived came in pill form. I got the liquid which is really nasty tasting and she refused it. If you are a member of the CRF support group and post a question about this there are a few people that understand this better than I do.

I just double checked myself and 29.3% HCT is considered normal in cats. I would ask why she feels your cat is anemic. JMHO.

I thought she said crit something, but I guess I was mistaken. I was kind of nervous, ya know? and at work, I'm not good with personal conversations at work, so I always like to get the paper copy of the blood work... so I can Google all the out of range stuff nailbite_smile

She didn't say he was anemic this time, but she did in the past. His RBC has been down for a while. His HCT has been fine.

He has been getting GNC Ultra Mega Multivitamin Plus Premium Formula Soft Chews for Senior Cats for a few years. He used to get one a day, like a treat. The package says to give two a day, so when he had the low RBC in February, I started giving him two a day. The Guaranteed Analysis - two a day: Iron (0.1%) - 1.5mg. The Nutived Chewable Vitamins For Cats have Active Ingredients - Each tablet: Iron (from ferrous fumarate) 5 mg. They are huge. I broke it into three and still was worried about his swallowing the pieces without chewing them well enough, and J.D. is a big cat.

I haven't posted anything on Tanya's Site in a long long time. I stopped their emails, and I'm not sure I know how to post there or find their responses anymore. It's bed time for us. Maybe, I'll try that tomorrow.

J.D. ate his 1st Dinner and had his first big vitamin. We went for a walk, and he ate more when we got home.

All of his test results are posted in his spreadsheet on the tab called Total Health Plus. If anyone wants to give their opinions, I would certainly appreciate it.

It is way past my bedtime, so we're off to bed, and those dang kittens are just not coming out, yet. :-|

Dyana, there's another CRF group that is active but not the volume of Tanya's.
It's https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Fel ... pport/info
You will recognize some of te people from the FPS group there. I will check the link to make sure it is right and post again if not. Helen moved Tanya's to Big Tent. The number of emails is way too much I feel as the membership is so big.

I think his HCT is not in the anemia stage but it is coming down. I like Elise's idea of giving B vitamins. We did that for Gus and he never became anemic to the point that most CKD cats do.

I would give 250 mg methylcobalamin And 1/10 of a Jarrows B Right multi vitamin BID. I got mine at vitacost.

The rest looks great as does his BP!
