04/28 Kitty PMPS 211 +3 203

Home for lunch break right now. She had another scarf and barf this morning. Of course, it always happens when I work the early shift and have to feed/shoot and then run out the door. I also think it was the same variety as the last time this happened, it was the FF Salmon & Shrimp pate. So basically she didn't get a whole 3 ounce can of FF this morning because she threw it up. Times were off a bit today because I had to feed/shoot early, so the auto feed fed her a small snack at +3 and a slightly larger snack at +4.5. She ate all of the +3 snack and some of the +4.5 snack but still it's only been 45 minutes since that was given to her. Checked her BG at +4.75 and its higher than preshot. Do you think she dropped low because of the lack of food and then maybe she's bounced up again? I just gave her some more food myself but she doesn't seem hungry right now, probably since she just ate some of the snack from the auto feeder at +4.5.

I'm wondering if I can adjust how much I feed her preshot so perhaps she will stop having scarf and barfs. Currently this is her feeding schedule:
PRESHOT: One 3oz can of FF
+2.5: One-fourth 3oz can of FF
+4: One-half 3oz can of FF

I was thinking maybe I could do:
PRESHOT: One-half 3oz can of FF
+2: One-half 3oz can of FF
+4: One-half 3oz can of FF

Essentially I'd be cutting the preshot meal in half and giving her a bit more in the next snack, but at a slightly earlier time. Do you think cutting the preshot meal in half is too much? I'm not sure how much food she needs on board that early on in the cycle.

I think that’s a good schedule to try. I never fed Max a lot at one time due to chronic pancreatitis later in life but he was long haired and threw up cigars due to looks of grooming when young. It would often happen in the morning. He did not have intestinal issues. My two I have now it’s the same thing. They always eat fast but seem to vomit immediately after the first meal of the day due to grooming lots once in awhile.
With Kitty you want to make sure she has food in her tummy at onset.

I wonder if there's something about the food that isn't agreeing with Kitty? What I think Elise is describing in her Max cat is coughing up a furball, not the same as actually barfing up food like your Kitty seems to be doing. I like the sound of your 2nd plan, feeding mini meals as opposed to a whole can at one time. You may want to ask your vet though if this vomiting is a regular thing, there could be some other underlying reason. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I would think about an increase to 2.5U. He is still above the normal range and you want to see if you can bring his numbers down a bit.
I agree with Bhooma.
I will do the increase but not yet. Everyone at work is sick right now and I've come down with it. I think it's just a cold or a sinus infection but I feel like garbage and I really need a few uneventful nights where I can get some good sleep.

I will definitely check with the vet if she continues to vomit, but at this point I really think its just "scarf and barf". It has only happened twice since the switch to wet food and both times it was in the morning right after she ate an entire can of FF. I've noticed when I give her a full can for her preshot meals she will stop eating about 3/4 of the way and just lay there for a few minutes and then continue eating the rest of it. So I think she's filling up and doesn't really need a full can all at once but she's always been the type of cat to stuff herself and eat everything that's given to her as fast as possible.
