02/27 Butters PMPS 54

[Butters & Lyla]

Yesterday was a doozy.

Overnight, I monitored butters and her leaky tush, bathed her (thank you gabapentin for helping with that), tucked her into a towel/blanket/puppy pad nest in the dollhouse bathroom, and slept for about 90 minutes before waking up to do her insulin.

Today, her tush has stopped leaking from the enema. Yay for that. She had a pancake poop this morning. I have puppy pads all over almost everything but I'm still keeping her confined to the bathroom unless I'm around to supervise. Which I am for the most part.

Thanks for all of the advice on how y'all manage your own cats' bowel health. Seems that just pumpkin isn't going to cut it for butters anymore, so today I'll be researching fish oils and whatnot. I happen to have a call set up with her naturopathic vet for Monday, so timing is perfect for me to bounce ideas off of her.

Hi Lyla, I was reading your post from yesterday, sorry you and Butters had to go thru all if this, poor baby. I'm sure her poop will start to become more solid.
After what she went thru her numbers still look great.

Glad to hear that poor little Butters' butt has stopped running. Do keep us updated on how you decide to manage her constipation as it's of keen interest chez Ruby as well. I only realized after giving Ruby lots of SEB yesterday for nausea that it's made of insoluble fiber and that can stop her up (unlike soluble fiber that helps things move along). Did the vet suggest that you do subQ at home?

Sleep....butters has gotten lots of sleep. She has done nothing but sleep, snore and eat today. I'm so envious.
No more litterbox activity since this morning. So now I wait and hope that she poops again at some point...hopefully tomorrow.

Even if you make SEB syrup? When it turns all mucilaginous?
Nope to subQ. He wasn't a huge fan right now and said just try to make her food as soupy as she will eat it. He worried about her DCM and fluids.
I will keep the board posted on what I'm doing for Butters's constipation.

If I had to guess, I would think more in terms of the dupe being the cause for the constipation. Most opioids will cause constipation. It's a common side effect.

She hasn't had any bupe since early January, so that wouldn't be the cause for her. The vet thinks it is related to CKD. I honestly don't have any other ideas what could be causing it.
