02/09 Toeby - report on lab results on COHAT sample

Just thought I'd drop a quick note to share the results from the tests the on Toeby's jaw.
Happy to report the sample showed no unusual looking cells, nor full necrosis.
So Toeby does NOT have cancer in his jaw bone - yay!
He did have very inflamed bone tissue, which we will continue to treat with antibiotics for a full 2 weeks.
He'll go for a check up in 3 weeks, and at that point we'll discuss whether more surgery on other teeth is required, but that would be months down the road - the vet who does the COHATs does not like to do multiple surgeries close together.

He's no longer my little meth head - the Comfortan is done, but he seems to be feeling better off it now.
I am being cautious with his insulin while he recovers - the vet warned me he might be sensitive until the inflammation is under control.
He is dropping into low seventies at hours +3 and +4 on only a quarter unit as it is.
I am encouraging him to eat as much as I can.
When two mornings' preshots were 131, I skipped his insulin, as I'd rather be safe than sorry.
My goal is to keep his sugars below 200 as much as possible, without him going below 50.
I am hoping as he heals, his numbers might get better, but we shall see.

Take care everyone, and thanks for the good wishes - it looks like they may have worked!

A relief indeed.
You know, he was born sometime in late summer or early fall of 2005, and I know he won't live forever, but cancer in his jaw was not the way I'd want to see him go.
I'm hoping if I get the inflammation under control, maybe, just maybe, his BGs will look better.
Two different vets told me that having that kind of uncontrolled inflammation and infection in the body can mess up a lot of things.
We shall see!

Awesome news! My dental vet had been 99% sure Neko's jaw growth was cancer. I liked proving him wrong. Good luck with the antibiotics.
