Yesterday's anti-jinxes didn't work :(

Bit of a disappointment with the auto feeder this morning. I set it to open at 5am (+9) again. Got up to show Buddy but he had zero interest. I took him to the kitchen for a litter box visit. He didn't want to eat when he came back to the bedroom either. I went back to sleep and hoped he would chow down at some point, but he didn't. Finally when I got up again at 6:50 am did he have some.

I'm not sure if it's the type of food. Last night I tried some Tiki After Dark chicken. Buddy tends to not like this type of food when it's dried out a bit. So I'll try a pate again tonight. The two mornings when he ate readily it was pates. Once Fancy Feast, and the other time Tiki venison. Maybe the pate smells are a bit stronger.

Have you tried Weruva foods? Ruby adores the pates and I feed her Cats in the Kitchen for MC and HC when she needs them. Now that she's been diagnosed with CKD their Jeopurrdy Licious and Family Food (love the game show names! :p) are great for low phosphorus/lowish protein. I water them down and she slurps it up. They have so many varieties at all levels of carb that maybe you can find one that Buddy would like?

Yeah, I do have some. I ordered a ton of the 'Meal or No Deal' by mistake. I got 3 boxes instead of 1. But he likes it so that's good. The Steak Frites he likes okay too. But not Chicken Frick A Zee. That gets a major thumbs down for some reason. Weird because he likes chicken otherwise. But I'm actually looking for some foods that he's not just going to vacuum down right away too.

Right now it's only that 5-8 am time slot with the auto feeder that I have a problem with. I think it's just because he's not used to eating at that time. The rest of the day he'll eat almost anything right away and ask for more.

Ruby does not like any of the Weruvas with the stringy meat. She's kinda of meh on Steak Frites. I have some cans of the chicken left that I think I'm going to put through the blender because that is the only way she's going to eat them.

That's a good idea.

Buddy doesn't mind the Tiki stringy meat versions but there's just something about Chicken Frick A Zee he has a problem with.
I'll have to research the other Weruvia pate options some more. I know the pouch ones I used to get before Buddy was diagnosed is too high carb for him now. And then I try to limit the fish.

Food research can take forever. Must be much harder when you have to consider the phosphorus as well!

I think Ruby's tried every Weruva formula that comes in a pouch. Ordering the variety packs from Chewy made that very easy. The ones that come in the "Showcase Chowdown" variety pack has all pates with less than 10% carb. The big problem with Weruva is they have only a small fraction of foods that don't have fish. Ruby loves the fish varieties, of course, but I try not to have her meals be composed solely of fish. Another great thing about Weruva is they post all of their nutritional stats for their foods on their website in every combination you'd need, so it's easy to look up carb and phosphorus content, and I've made a separate FOOD tab in my spreadsheet for everything she's ever eaten so that I can refer to it and share with others.

Ooh thanks for letting me know about your food tab. That's a very handy reference. Thank you!

Regular Tiki also has fish in everything. The After Dark ones don't and Buddy loves those, but I think they'd probably be too high in protein/phospherous for Ruby.
