It's the old boy's birthday today!

This also marks his "one month without insulin". He's been doing globally well, except for these spasm issues. I found his BG slightly higher recently, but I changed meters, and then started using the FS strips in the AT, so looking at trends over a month is a little tricky. But whatever the reading, it's still "normal" (or pre-diabetic, if one insists).

As he seemed a little in pain these last days I got him a Convenia injection to see if it helped. Well, let me tell you that yesterday evening I had a purr machine in bed that just wouldn't stop. He's always been a purry cat, and I now it's the first thing that decreases when something is up. It's too early to tell but it seems the Convenia is doing something. His BG was also marginally lower this morning. We'll see over the next days.

On my side, still having adventures with giardia lamblia, and my civvie Erica isn't well (I suspect panc, but it might be lymphoma IBD; check the links for thoughts and questions on her BG over the last week).

You probably noticed I managed to drag a few francophones onto the board. Everybody is going through a rough patch right now so we've been a bit absent these last days, but hopefully things will pick up this weekend. I keep holding out for all the kitties on the board, checking condos and sending vines.

Happy birthday, Quintus! The oldest cat I ever had crossed one month after his 17th birthday (Harvey, my avatar). Next oldest was one month shy. I hope Quintus blows them out of the water!

We do appreciate your helping others to find the Board, and facilitating their learning. Sometimes language can be a bit of a barrier, but we all speak the language of cat love!

Happy Birthday to Quintus! Must be wonderful care you are giving toe him! My Sug, lived to 17.4 years.

I did not realize that Quintus was OTJ!. How did we miss a party??

Noticing that you use a AT2 meter. What is the normal range for that meter?

ETA : And I echo Tricia to thank you for staying on to help others. :bighug::bighug::cat:

Happy Birthday Quintus!

I'm glad he is doing well. Sending prayers for your civvie Erica.

Happy birthday Quintus! For what it's worth, I never had luck with FS strips in my AT2 meter. When I ran test side by side AT strips and FS strips the FS's were both above and below the AT strips. BUT with his numbers and off the juice it's very encouraging!!!

Thanks for all your kind wishes! Had a long day of work and veterinary stress with Erica (check her condo for update and send vines -- advice too if you have it, I feel lost) and it was really nice to find all your messages at the end of my day! Quintus is lounging on my tummy. I barely saw him today as I was working in the office to keep an eye on Erica. So, a few answers:

- yeah, we might have missed a party for Quintus. I took him OTJ cold turkey against advice, so didn't really feel comfortable declaring an official "trial" etc. I was just following day after day to see how it went. And it still goes!
- I'm getting a new load of AT2 strips so will be able to get some "real" (hahahahaha) measures every now and again.
- I am telling Quintus that I fully intend to have him lounging on my tummy a year from now
- language does indeed make things more cumbersome, but I'm surprised at how well it works; trickier is the "culture" gap to bridge, learning that it's important to post regularly, give updates, respond, rub elbows with others to create relationships -- this is not obvious for "facebook people", moreso of French culture (you know the social aspects are pretty different). But we'll get this going, once all our crises have abated!

Thanks again to you all. I'm really happy to be part of this board :-)
