In your thread for yesterday you mentioned leaving the insulin out.

Another option is keep it in the fridge and remove it 5-10 minutes before you give it. What I do is take the vial out of fridge, put on counter. Then I set everything up to test. After testing I fix all 4 bowls, add any meds, supplements to them. Pull up the syringe with Olive dose (currently 8.25 units). Then put all bowls down for the kitties and while Olive is eating, I shoot in the side.

This way you are storing the insulin so it lasts, but its warm enough to give.

Normally I get everything ready to test and shoot; put Ti-Mousse on his cushion on the kitchen island, test, shoot, put him on the floor and feed all 3 kitties. He's always very hungry in the morning, so tomorrow after testing I'll put his bowl in front of him on the island (2 other kitties on the floor) and shoot while he's eating. Ti-Mousse is so nice, when I put him on his cushion on the island, he knows he has to stay there until it's over and I put him on the floor... that's why I'll try feed him there. If he's on the floor I'm afraid he'll run away if he sees the syringe. Looks so easy, can't wait for tomorrow morning to see what I missed;)

I'm about to start a new vial, so I'll try your way: keep in the fridge and take out 5-10 minutes before.

Ti-Mousse looks like such a sweetheart. He came to the right house with his frozen ears! How did he get his name?

When I started giving Ravan his shots he was not happy & I was nervous. It didn't take very long though before both of us got into the routine . When I get everything set up I shake the little container of test strips & it makes a clicking noise. Now when Ravan hears it he jumps up on the chair & waits for me to test. He may not like it still but he knows I love him & trying to help him. Baby steps. Little by little it will get figured out! Remember to take a deep breath ,4 or 5 ( we learn how important correct breathing is in Yoga) and try to be calm . Our kitties pick up on it when we get nervous.

Hope you have a Wonderful Day! :):bighug:

Ti-Mousse is so nice, so sweet ! He used to follow me like a dog and if he wasn't sure of something or worried, he would look at me with his big eyes and I would just had to say “it’s OK” and he was OK.
Now things have changed, when I come close to him around shooting or testing time, he runs away, hides under the table… I hope we'll get our complicity back! Tomorrow morning, I’ll start feeding him while shooting, it might work OK and I’ll think of yoga – breathing, breathing….

I can just see me shaking the strips container, Ti-Mousse would probably jump out of the window; but once he's in place on the kitchen island where I do it, he doesn't move and wait for me to finish.
Did it take you long to get there, or has Raven always been that cooperative?

I replied on yesterday’s post about Arkray test strips. There are a couple of cheapest options in Canada. The first is the Bravo test strips, available on line https://diabetesexpress.ca/products/bravo-meter
The second option is to buy your human meter test strips on eBay. A number of people found good prices there.

It didn’t take long for Neko to get into the testing routine. My second cat followed along cause he got atreat too.:) Of course he was surprised when I tested him instead. :p

I always give Max his shot while he's eating. He eats a few treats in the morning and in the evening I give it to him while he's eating wet food. It really helps!

That's what I'm going to try tomorrow morning; he's always so hungry in the morning, he wakes me up for breakfast!

It's been nearly a year! But I think he got into the routine in a few weeks. I'm very concerned about "not" having him gain weight. I always read that just like with people excess weight is hard on their body.Ravan was raised on a Raw diet & never got "treats"
unless you consider a piece of raw liver a treat :woot: He actually loves liver but too much isn't good for him. I usually feed him after his shot & he seems happy with that.
( I was the mom who brought out fresh veggies as a treat for my kids I was not popular with their friends! ) I never had the habit of soda & munchies around the house,I'm vegetarian. My son's wife is also & my 2 grandkids. my son is working on it.

You're so funny! I know what you mean "veggies as a treat"! When my daughter was a kid, her treats were veggies (her friends thaught we didn't have any money )! I'm 95% vegerarian, my daugter is mostly vegeterian and bio and my grandson is craving about tofu !!! You're right about liver, too much vitamin A, and yes... raw liver a treat....yeurk!!

Why are you concerned about Ravan's weight? Is he losing weight? Is he stable? Is he over or underweight? My Ti-Mousse was 22 pounds last year, he is now 13.5 to 14 pounds; unfortunately I did not see he was losing that much weight as I was taking care of my other kitty who left us in May from CKD... It's then I realised how much weight Ti-Mousse had lost and went to the vet!
Since on low carb diet, he did not gain ! What about our little friend Ravan, what's bothering you ?

Why are you concerned about Ravan's weight?

Ravan is about 12 lbs. Vet said it's a good weight for him. I just don't want him to gain. Animals (like people ) have more health issues when they're overweight. I thought I was doing everything right feeding my Kitties a Raw diet but he got diabetes anyway.Vet said some kitties just inherit it.
When I go to the vet I see so many animals that are very overweight. It's become an epidemic! I read this recently & it opened my eyes to the problems with our animals being over weight https://petobesityprevention.org/pet-weight-translator

Obesity-related health problems include heart disease, ruptured ligaments, respiratory compromise, tiredness, diabetes, greater susceptibility to certain types of liver disease, and osteoarthritis.

Ti-Mousse was 22 pounds last year
Some very large breeds of cats can weigh that much & be the correct weight. But most cats would be obese at that weight!

There are people that still feed dry food & the cat is overweight & Bg is very high & won't come down.I've seen several people here stop feeding dry food & their cat went into remission! I don't understand why anyone would continue feeding kibble if they know the cat might go into remission if they stop?

First, my vet also told me that 12 pounds was a good weight for Ti-Mousse. Of course, he was obese at 22 pounds and probably because of me! He was coming from outside, very tall, muscle but so so skinny; unfortunately I thaught he needed food and food to get back in shape! He only got diabetes... and I think processed manufactured food is a big problem with our overweight and sick kitties. Since then, I changed his diet and he lost weight and is now 13-14 pounds which I think is OK for now! For me the best is raw diet or healthy complete home made food but your kitties have to like it. I tried when one of my kitties was diagnosed CKD last year, but didn't go anywhere; none of them would even lick it!

I think Ravan has an ideal weight, as long as he maintains it you're OK; you just have to watch he doesn't gain; Ti-Mousse is on the scale every 2-3 days..

Your boy's numbers look like mine. :(

Has he developed any neuropathy yet?
We have the same spreadsheets, stupid BLACK and RED numbers mostly ... but we're just starting with Lantus; apparently it takes awhile for our kitties to get use to it and then the insulin starts acting properly; we'll find the good dosage, it's a matter of time!!! Don't worry, you're ahead of us, at least you got BLUES.... Ti-Mousse doesn't have neuropathy, he's got a very hard belly though but the vet says he's too fat, I'm not sure of that !!! Ti-Mousse has dental problems also which have to be delt with soon but the vet is not ready for it, so I'll have to find another vet or dentist!!!

We'll get there, you'll see!!:)
