01/14 Haley - OTJ Update - +1 230 | Feline Diabetes Message Board - FDMB Ate a good breakfast and is acting fine.
I would give it a little more time. My first diabetic, Rosa, was given a small amount of dry food by a tech at a boarding vet we used just once for her (yes, I'd left food and specific instructions on what she could and could not have and had told them specifically no dry food, even "diabetic" prescription dry food). It took a full week for her numbers to settle back down. She did fine on YA, although she only ever got a little bit as a treat, but every cat is different and I have heard of other cats spiking high from YA despite the lack of carbs in it.
Ty. That makes me feel better. She has a vet appt on the 25th. Hopefully she'll be down by then. She seems to come down but goes up at night. I could kick myself if I did this to her. Thank God, and I do, that she's acting fine and is eating well.
You can only know what you know, and you can only ever work with the information you have at the time. The YA food is low carb, and most diabetic cats do fine on it. You couldn't possibly have known that she might be one of the few who doesn't. You've been testing and you caught the rise in numbers quickly - she's not in normal range, but her numbers aren't hideous by any means. And if she needs a little insulin for a short time to get things back under control, you've done it for her before and you can do it again. She obviously doesn't feel ill and that's all our cats really care about.
Ty. You’re right. I’ll do whatever I have to get make my girl better. She’s absolutely fine. You’d never know. Ty for your kind words ❤️
Thank you so much, Suzanne! I’m going to fight for my precious girl. I’m calling the vet tomorrow to have blood tests done to see if there’s anything else that might be spiking her numbers. If nothing is going on, I may wait a few more days, before I put her back on insulin. Hopefully, it’s the Young Again food that’s doing it. Today is the 3rd day that she’s been off of it. Lol, I fed my 4 kitties this morning. Haley is very fussy. She’ll walk away before she’ll he something she doesn’t like. Sooo, I opened up another can of FF. She went, I don’t know where for about a half hour, then just hopped up on the couch next to me. After she got settled, I ran to get the food. I fed her right there on the couch (I put something under her bowl). She ate like a little chow hound! She sounds so cute when she eats. ❤️ She hopped down and 5 minutes later she can back for more, on the floor So, I’ll test her in 3-4 hrs. I hope I can find her. She has a true hiding spot so I don’t know where it is!
Ty, Suzanne! She gets lots of affection. Before she got diabetes, she was never a lap cat. She is now❤️ I think it’s because she knows I’m doing something that’s good for her. It’s brought us closer❤️
