Amps 216 Libre

Good morning, Ivy seems to need a little less insulin lately, so I’ve given some small reductions. She blew out a Libre on Saturday morning after she bounced way high from a lower cycle overnight and the Libre just shut down 🤬🤯😭

I’ve slept on the sofa most nights lately as she’s been a bit lower on the Libre, (yet safe on a handheld) but I needed to keep her Libre going, so I fed carbs until she naturally rose at about +7, which is 1 am).
Very exhausting, especially dealing with autoimmune disease myself (fatigue and tired) 😫
We go to the vet tomorrow at +8 for lab work to see what her B12 levels are doing (will be sent to TAMU), plus standard labs to see her overall levels.
At the moment she’s getting weekly B12 shots.

That sounds exhausting - I’m so sorry Staci. I wish that they made Libres better calibrated for kitties. You’re such a dedicated caregiver to Ivy and I’m sure she appreciated the couch cuddles. Hopefully with this new lower dose, you’ll be able to sleep without worrying about the Libre blowing out.

Good luck with the vet visit tomorrow! And wishing you a very calm uneventful day where you can catch up on some rest. Your health is extremely important too 🥰

Haha, getting good rest soon. You’re a funny lady 🤩
I haven’t rested in 4 years since this began (probably why I have my own health issues now) 😭

Oh ok, Usually B12 test requires 8-12 hours, but maybe 6 is ok. I have no idea really. Are you just having the B12 test done? Not the whole panel?

I’m also doing the regular stuff too. As well as another B12 related test called MMA at TAMU.
I believe we checked about the 6 hour fast and it was ok.

This GI panel? I do know the TLI test does require a 12 hour fast. But if you dont care about that result, maybe the others dont. Here is info from IDEXX.

3.6-5.3 μg/L Serum Spec fPL™ concentration is increased. The cat may have pancreatitis and Spec fPL™ should be reevaluated in two weeks if clinical signs persist. Investigate for other disease that could cause observed clinical signs.



≥5.4 μg/L Serum Spec fPL™ concentration is consistent with pancreatitis. The cat most likely has pancreatitis. I’m pretty sure they checked with TAMU the last time and were told 6 hours will be ok.
I will ask again tomorrow!

Feeling for you on the Libre shutting down. Looks like we may have lost our current one after just two days 😳 So disheartening 😭❤️

Thanks Carina. I’m so sorry to hear you had one fail too. It really sucks when that happens!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭

I really think when our kitties are in lower BG ranges for several hours it shuts down as a “safety” feature. The sensor must think the person using it isn’t reading correctly, thus it causes a fail.
Since we use it off label, it’s not designed for our cats 🤬

I had a similar theory and yes it’s SO infuriating 😫😖🤬 On our way to the Costco now. Do you buy more than one at a time?

I have my vet write it for 2 at a time (but sometimes when I ask for more at the pharmacy, I’ll just give me four if I want at a time since I’m buying it without insurance, they can push it through).

You could ask the pharmacy how they prefer to have the script written and then you could ask the vet to write it accordingly
