8/26 MOO AMPS 90 PLEASE HELP OR ADVISE!!

I have been taking care of Moo's diabetes since June. We are settled into a 2.75U dose. He's been proving to show lower numbers at preshot recently, and I don't have enuf info from my vet to move forward with this morning's dose. His dose is supposed to happen at 9:30am central. We did our last curve Sunday and got guidance from his vet Monday morning. Stay the 2.75 dose, and this protocol for preshot numbers...

2. Low Pre-Shot Protocol: If the pre-shot value is 200 mg/dL or higher, please proceed with the full 2.75 Unit dose. If his value is below 200mg/dL, you can wait for 30-60 minutes, then retest. If the value remains below 200 mg/dL, you can give a 1/2 dose of insulin (1.5 units). If at any point you have questions, feel free to reach out to the clinic.

But, she's out of office Tuesday and Wednesday, and Moo's preshot is significantly lower this morning. He had a tablespoon full of FF pate with his B12 but I'm holding for a retest.

Looking for dosing advice at this low of a preshot number. I don't think I can do this myself. Maybe a 0.5?? 🤔 I'm a little panicked this has never happened before. SS is in my signature. Thank you to anyone that could possibly reach out and help!!
 
Sorry no one got back to you in a timely fashion. I see you shot 1.5 units.

I do have some question about how you are determining the dose. Both your signature and the spreadsheet says SLGS for dosing, but instead it sounds like you are following what the vet suggests? With SLGS, you would reduce the dose by 0.25 units anytime they go under 90, which Moo has done twice so far on the 2.75 unit dose. See August 11th and 23rd. If you are finding it hard to keep giving the full dose and reducing because preshots are too low for you, that might be another reason to move to the 2.5 unit dose. Note, with SLGS, we have different guidelines than your vet has given for shooting lower numbers, and that guidance changes as you gather more data on your cat. Which you are doing a good job with.
 
I just chose the SLGS as my choice because I knew I wasn't going with TR. He was diagnosed 5/29 and I don't have literally any feline diabetes knowledge. I really only had what guidance my vet gave me to go on, so that's what I did. He's completely fine now. I tested at noon and he's at 218. I called the vet and his attending doc is out until Monday. They told me I could skip if under 100 moving forward, if I felt the need to. I suppose I'll shoot her another email and ask if a reduced dose is actually warranted now. I mean that's my only option at this point I think. 🤔 Thank you for the good job comment. I think I really needed that. ❤ I appreciate your response. I tried to join the affiliated Facebook group as well. I think it's affiliated?? 🤔 I'm waiting on an approval.

I'm glad Moo's OK. That's the most important thing. Due to the reduced dose his numbers will probably keep rising the rest of the day, so you can take a break on testing if you wish. A trick, when the +2 is higher than the preshot, it'll likely be a quiet cycle not needing much testing.

The vast majority of us didn't know anything when we started, that's why we try to help new people. We know how overwhelming it can be.

There is a facebook group, but they aren't supposed to give dosing support. They should send you over here for that. There are some people on the FB group who are also on here.

Okay, thank you for that clarification. 😊 I was panicked because I did not get a response from anyone here, and wasn't sure how to proceed. I had to make my own call using what my vet had told me. I was still scared as to what would happen today. Moo has never gone hypoglycemic, and I am really hoping to never experience that. 🤞
I am also in another facebook group, Feline Diabetes Support Group and they are very responsive, but now I think they have ousted me because I asked for interpretation on Moo's recent numbers yesterday and was answered with dosing protocol I didn't ask for. I went with what my vet had instructed me to do. From what I can tell, because I did not take that dosing advice I did not ask for, they aren't willing to help me moving forward. I posted my dosing inquiry today, which needed admin approval, and was answered with contact your vet. I'm actually heartbroken because I respected that group and their expertise very much, and was hoping to utilize any knowledge I would receive. They do help many kitties, it's amazing what they do.

I do definitely recommend checking out the FAQ. There are are a lot of good stickies in this forum and over in the welcome thread too!!

This forum is such a great resource!! I've learned so much so quickly for my little man!!
