What a night! Thanks everyone who helped with the carb issue. I still dont really know why theres so many different results listed for the same foods. Anyway, I guess I should just stick with what works. Problem is, she isnt really liking the Fancy Feast much now. She will eat a little of it. Maybe its enough to bring her numbers up some.
I brought a cooler upstairs last night so I didnt have to go down to the kitchen to get her food. Of course then she didnt get it warmed up, so that could have been part of the factor as to why she didnt eat as much of the Fancy Feast. When I gave her the Weruva (4% pate), however, fresh out of the can, she gobbled up the whole thing (32 grams)!
I didnt really want her dropping below 100 because she bounces every time that happens, but well, couldnt stop it, so it is what it is. We'll see how her body reacts to all these lower numbers.

Hopefully she doesn’t jump on the pogo stick with Khloe and Moonie today!

It’s amazing how refined our kitties’ palates are. Sometimes I look at them and wonder how their ancestors ate random rats and stuff in the wild when Moonie will only eat specific room temperature or slightly warm wet food (specific brands only) that is mashed up and spoon fed to her 🤣

My kitty Opal will only eat certain foods in certain places— she has 3 acceptable feeding spots and sometimes we have to go to all three of them and sometimes even circle back to one before she’ll choose a spot to finally settle and eat. 🙄 I have no idea how she was surviving in the wild before Animal Control picked her up. 😜

They adjust real fast once they realize how easy their moms and dads are to manipulate! 🤣🤣🤣

Karamelle is improving! 🥰 Maybe her body will start to react in a better way to the lower numbers... it will happen one day 🙏🏼

That is a good one, Connie! So many differences... they became spoiled!

Mami Cat also got tired of her previous LC food. I wonder if it is ok to rotate flavors too often. Here we have some new natural options on the market; it helps a bit. I avoid the ones with too many of those additives and industrialized "extras" the brands usually insert in their options.

For the ones in the US, if I got it right, in the column where it says carb %, it is carb %ME.
Usually the charts show the carb %ME, as I could notice.

In any case, I always check it again using the carb calculator, as I am in a different country.

Lisa also explains it below:

Info - Dr. Pierson - new Food Chart

She says:
"You will also note that I streamlined the chart and removed DMB data. Only ME (calorie-basis) values are shown which is the best way to look at food composition."

Maybe it helps...
This is what I usually do, although there is a chart for Latin America too.

The problem is that the result I got from the carb calculator was so different from anything listed on the charts. I mean like the difference between 18-20% on the chart and 4% on the calculator. The Fancy Feast gravy lovers feast pate is definitely not 4% I dont think because it brings her BG up higher than when I use another food (Weruva) that I know is 4%

I see... got it now.
There is also the issue with using
Guaranteed Analysis (GA) or
Typical Nutrient Analysis (TNA).

(And there are so many Fancy Feast options in the US! Maybe yours is different from the one listed in the chart. Could yours be a newer, different version?)

Jo, quick question, are you also using the %ME carb value as the reference when comparing it all with the food chart?

Well, in my humble opinion, since I'm not the most experienced person here, I think the ingredient composition also matters.

There may be one or two ingredients that, for Karamelle specifically, cause her BG to rise. Different carbohydrate sources can have different effects—gluten, corn, soy, starch etc. So it's possible that one of those ingredients is making her BG go up, even if both foods have a similar %ME carb value.

...They can be sensitive to different types of carbs in very individual ways, I guess. And because of that, some types of carbs may cause intestinal inflammation in certain cats.

But maybe those with more experience can offer better insight.

This is interesting. I hadnt thought to look at it this way. The Fancy Feast, although it may have a lower carb % probably has worse ingredients than Weruva. I think Im going to stick with Weruva and try and find some different carb % within that brand, Theyve got so many foods. im sure I can find a few with higher carbs she likes. Off to Petco to see what I can find.

Well the good news is that she liked it! That thing must have some magic ingredients to have so many picky cats like it.

Hopefully it has enough carbs to keep Miss Karamelle surfing flat!

She really is working this dose isn’t she? It’s hard when one dose seems too strong and the one below not enough.

Well now Im resorting to finger feeding again, sigh. Shes hardly eaten any of her dry food and although she ate every last drop of the Lamb Burgini 2 hours ago, she wouldnt touch it just now and her BG was heading down again.
I fear I may have to lower the dose just to get her eating. Lovely numbers but not if she isnt eating. :arghh: Any thoughts @Marje and Gracie ?

Wow, what a few days, Jo. I hope Karamelle eats well again soon!
Why do they have to be so picky?!

You’re doing a great job with her. I hope you can get some rest tonight 🥰🌊🏄‍♀️

Ugh I’m so sorry Jo. Why are kitties so picky 😔

Hopefully Karamelle can flatten out soon so that you can get some rest tonight. I would be curious what you get from Marje and the others as for me, working very hard to stay ahead of Moonie’s numbers was a big sign to ask about a potential reduction.

Maybe the reduced dose will be more effective if you were previously dosing before the calipers and now it can be more consistent? Either way Karamelle seems to love throwing you curve balls! It’s a good thing she’s so darn pretty 😻😻😻

I was thinking the same thing. This pattern of flatness didnt seem to happen before. I do think the consistent dosing was key. Im glad I started using the caliper.
I was willing to keep up with the overnight testing as long as she was eating. But this is hard on me and her.

I agree.. chronic sleep deprivation is really hard as is without having to coax your kitty to eat when they don’t want to.

Hopefully you can get to a good dose where she can see good numbers with you sleeping / Karamelle eating normally.

She’s doing so much better on this dose but it’s important she eats. Do you think she’s just full or she’s decided that food was nice but now she wants something else?

She did eat a little more dry food so it could be she liked the food once, but not again. Not sure. Im about to feed her the 4% Weruva that I know she likes and see how that goes.

So its this... sigh. She licked up every last drop of the Weruva chicken pate 4%. I gave her 26G, which is a little over a 1/4th of a small can. She probably would have eaten a lot more. I did buy some other higher carb flavors of the same kind of Weruva pate today, so I will try that next. I guess Im lucky she actually lets me feed her with my finger. I know none of my other cats would let me stick my finger in their mouth. Shes so easy when it comes to that. It looks like I may not have to do that on a regular basis tho, thank goodness.

I’m glad you had some success.

If she doesn’t bounce, she might keep you up again tonight.
