Good morning all! Happy weekend. We've been completely invaded by ants so I can't put any food in Ember's feeder. Last night I came home to find they'd infiltrated both compartments of wet food and Ember couldn't eat her snacks since it was crawling with ants. 😿 So gross! I guess they've come in because of the hot weather. I hate killing things, but I make an exception for ants and fleas. 😜 At this point I've killed so many (I spray them with dish soap in water so it's safe for the cats) I don't see how there can be any left in the world but they just keep coming!
We did an increase a couple days ago (thanks for the reminder @Mary & Jude ) so hopefully we'll start seeing some better numbers.

Someone else here mentioned having an indoor ant battle the other day. We have invasions every summer, but this summer, so far, I've been able to stay on top of them (ANTI-JINX). We use these trays that I put food bowls on. They are pricey, but effective. I also started using this, which is safe around pets and does a fairly good job of repelling. I also use dish soap, which does a fine job killing them, but isn't that effective at repelling. They come into my house like rivers sometimes. I hate them! I hope you can get the upper hand with them.

Good luck with the increase! Scritches to precious Ember.

Too bad they don't sell those trays in bulk-- we could totally use them at the feeding stations at the feral colony too! How long do you find the spray lasts?

You might check with them to see if they would give you a deal on several of the trays. The way the trays work is there is a sticky gel substance you apply to the feet/legs of the trays, and if the trays are where there is dirt, that could easily get on the sticky substance and you'd need to reapply frequently. At home, mine get cat hair in the gel, which needs to be removed or the ants will crawl on the hair to get to the tray, but all I need to do is gently wipe that off. I generally reapply the sticky stuff once a year or so.

I use the spray daily, whenever I see invasions start. I do try to pull things away from the crevices where they invade, and let the spray sit there for awhile. It's not an insecticide, so it doesn't work like, say, Raid, but, again, it's also not poison and harmful for the kitties, which is important to us.

Oh boy. And invasions are the worst!! I’m so sorry Elaine.

We had to get an exterminator a few years ago to put baits outside so the ants took the stuff back to the nest to that queen and it did its thing.
I wouldn’t let them put anything where Ivy goes.

It all worked but it was stressful. My kitchen counters were their main target 🤮

I hope your ants are gone soon 💪👊🙏

Oh noooooo, I'm so sorry. I'm the same way about killing stuff, but I don't know what else you can do with an infestation. I had a steady stream of them earlier in the month (I live in an apartment complex on the second floor), and I caulked up the hole they were coming in and that took care of it (I'm assuming they just went to an easier apartment). I would imagine it is way harder to keep them out of a house. I hope you get a cool wave of weather - ants begone!!

My mom just brought over her magical concoction of powdered sugar, baking soda, and grape jelly so we'll see if that helps. 🤞 I am seriously considering getting one of those trays to put Ember's feeder on. I don't have caulking at home, but I do have glue, so I may try blocking the entrances with that for now. I really hope I don't have to hire an exterminator!

FYI, I have an exterminator year round, but they have not been able to eradicate the ants. The exterminators do what they can, but I still have invasions. I tell myself it would be far worse without the pest control. But I live in the very buggy Deep South. I truly hope your mom’s magical concoction works. I’ve heard sweetener with diamataceous earth works well too, but it didn’t do much for my ants. I think my invasions aren’t bad this year because we’ve had an abundance of rain. I’ve been told that ants come inside for food AND water. In the past, they often invade my potted plants, I assume looking for water. Good luck!!
