Lantus Solostar pens- can they be used with syringes?

I searched this online & it said 'no.'

But someone on this forum told me they can be?

The reason it's an issue is because the Lantus in the vials are always out of stock & I end up having to call around to find a pharmacy that has it. Evidently everyone uses the pens now. But I need to use the syringe to give the insulin. So can the syringe be inserted into the Solostar pens?

You definitely want to keep the insulin in the fridge middle shelf


Just take the cap off the pen or cartridge and use a U100 syringes and pull the insulin out of the pen! You will see a small gray rubber stopper, insert the syringe there

That’s my question . ( since everywhere is out of the lantus ) my Vet suggested the solo star.
But in googling it I read do you still need to do 100 syringes because what are you using to inject the cat? There’s no syringe and it’s just rubber hole correct? I’m confused.
 
Please see my response to you on the Lantus forum - I pointed you to a Sticky Note that has pictures of how you use a syringe with the pens.

yes, the Solostar pen has a rubber stopper. humans use a little special pen needle with it (sold separately). however you can use syringes with it for the cat. (see above pic). i use a 31guage syringe (the thinnest needle). i like it because i can feel it go in the skin. with all the fur, the special pen needle may be harder to use/feel. you should be able to buy a box of syringes from the pharmacy. shop around, there's definitely cheaper brands.

Can you use the U100 1CC ? I know 31 or 32 gauge and 6 or 8mm are the correct specs but I’m confused on the barrel of the syringe , can a person safely draw out 2Units of the insulin using a 1CC syringe ?

1cc/ml for 100 units

8mm (5/16") length needle

31 gauge

i've also used slightly longer needles too.
 
The 100 unit syringes are too big and don't have half unit markings for small dose changes. You can draw two units, but cat's typically need changes by 0.25 or 0.5 units at a time. You can't do that with the U-100's. Here is the recommendation:
  • U-100 3/10cc syringes with half unit markings are the best to use for drawing Lantus, Levemir, or the Biosimilars from vials, cartridges, and pens.

What’s her dosage she’s taking because everyone keeps telling me that at once you see I won’t be able to read two units. I think there’s probably little markings. Maybe not the number beside it with the 1 cc syringe but I was told the one cc was too big to go with 0.3 I have someone cc coming so I guess I’ll look on there and see if I can do it and I get it. You want the better Kneidel so it’s 31 or 32 gauge for the thinner and the 06 or 08 mm. I guess that’s the length of the needle ? . I’m not sure.

Oh so yeah you say the same thing that 1 cc is not it’s too big so 0.3 is this the recommended not the one CC understood
