05/09 Caesar: AMPS HI, +2 HI

Morning Everyone! Caesar continued to stay in the higher BG range since his low on 05/06 with HI readings running most of yesterday 05/08 (edit: had a decent drop yesterday following morning dosage, +4 216, +5 234, so right around the NADIR value before shooting back up at +8) and into this morning. Energy levels dipped a little bit, but is still grooming well and eating. Drinking slightly more this morning due to his higher BG. Thinking of increasing to 3u tomorrow? Thoughts?

Since you are seeing nadirs below 300, dose increases would be in multiples of 0.25U (and not 0.5U). That 194 you saw on 5/6 was within meter variance of yellow. You want more than a stray high blue nadir to hold the dose more than 6 cycles. He looks good for an increase to 2.75U.

@Bandit's Mom Sounds good! Have any recommendations for that 0.25u increase - our current needles only go by 0.5u increments so the difference between 2.5 and 3.0 is maybe a mm at most so little difficult to "eye ball"

Are you regularly testing his ketones? If so, please put the results in the Remarks on the spreadsheet.

There are pictures in the Insulin and Syringes Sticky Note that show how you eyeball the in between measurements. There is nothing smaller than syringes with 1/2 unit markings. Some people move to calipers, but the choice is up to you. Dosing with calipers Some syringes have fatter barrels, some narrower. The narrower ones are longer and have more room to find that in between dose.

Yeah, that's what most of us do. Just eyeball the 0.25U increase mid-way between the 0.5Umarks. For accuracy and consistency in dosing you have the option of using callipers. I began to use them after a year or two when I realized how off the markings on the syringes were!

Here's more info:

Try and test when we can! Last test was Wednesday night (negative) w/ Ketostix. Ended up being out of the house most of the day yesterday so didn't have a chance. Will test today and update with the results!

Sounds good! We'll up to 2.75 tomorrow! thanks for the information guys!
