Continued to test HI this morning following a short drop down 05/02 evening. Daily BG average slowly increasing following 05/01 increase to 2u. 05/01 Thread. Ate breakfast well (75%), finishing remaining and squeeze treat @ +3. Up and active for breakfast, tired/sleepy for remainder of morning. Potentially due to have family staying over night.

How is Caesar feeling?
I hope he comes down a bit today.
How are his ketones?
Are you adding water to his food to try to get more water into him?

Are you planning on an increase tomorrow after the 6 cycles on 2 units?

If you have questions please post with a question mark and comment in your title to get some help!

Hi! Seems to be doing okay - eating and drinking well; we do see his energy levels dip and rise corresponding to his BG levels (ex: 05/01 AM, higher energy, lowest BG to date). He has always been a "lazier" cat to begin with so that'll be taken into account. One of the benchmarks we kinda use is that every night he asks to go "outside" and explore the hallway of our apartment building lol. Even w the higher BG readings, he continues to do so, which is a good sign!

Will test his ketones today - have both the Ketostixs and the Keto-mojo arrived yesterday we can try using!
He's been pretty good at drinking water on his own, usually add ~ 1 tbsp on water in his breakfast (had parents feed him dinner last 2 nights due to work)

Depending how his BG goes today, most likely will increase to 2.5u starting tomorrow - love to get yours and other peoples thoughts on that!

Definitely increase to 2.5u in the morning and let’s give him four cycles at that if he doesn’t drop lower. If he’s still not seeing ay BGs below 300, we will increase to 3u after those four cycles.

I’m glad he’s doing some of his normal activities and you will be testing his ketones today. Please let us know the results.

Sounds like a plan - I can tell we're making progress but still a little ways to go!

Tested his ketones via urine Ketostix and came back negative. Originally tried with the Keto-Mojo but unable to get enough blood drawn from his ear. Not totally surprised - it was our first attempt and the Keto-Mojo lancets are 30G so a little on the smaller side. Will try again either later tonight or tomorrow depending on his attitude - he's not impressed with us right now lol

The urine test strips are just fine as long as you read it exactly at the moment it states (usually 15 seconds). It can change fast. Great you got a negative.

Hey @Marje and Gracie little hiccup in our increase plans - Caesar was finally successful at removing his CGM tonight (of course right before the +2 test). Have a new one on route tonight. We typically get a vet tech. to apply the libre rather than doing it ourselves. Question now becomes - should we carry forward with the increase tomorrow morning?

Reading up on the forum, I know shooting blind is incredibly risky, however with Caesar, he was already running HI for the last 48 hours with the 2u dosage. Realistically, the chances of 2.5u dropping his BG below 100?

Going to call the vet first thing tmr morning to see if they can squeeze us in to apply it / or try to apply it ourselves tonight. Since he's had the CGM on since being home from the vet, we haven't tried the CONTOUR meter (or Keto-Mojo) successfully yet (especially solo since I'll be at work tomorrow)

So you haven’t done any home testing where you are poking his ear? Can you try tonight? I can’t suggest you shoot blindly even though it’s unlikely he will see a low number but I’ve seen enough members wake up to unexpectedly lower numbers.

Here’s is a post on testing techniques.

Only tried once with the Keto-Mojo to test ketones (unsuccessful, hence the Ketostix results). We've read up on the home testing and have all the necessary equipment, just haven't done so yet! Since he came home with a CGM already on and with our life and work schedule (work during the day), the CGM has been the easiest option so far, especially for my gf and parents to keep track of his BG.

Totally understand not being able to suggest shooting blindly! His vet opens an hour before his dosage time, so I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they can get him in right away to get a new one on, in case the at-home doesn't work out tonight!
