Biddy 2/22 PMPS 79

Hi there. That Biddy! He does well on an increase and then he starts creeping up. You could try increasing to 8 to see if you can get some green. How is it going with the Zobaline. I know Biddy has only been talking it for a little over ten days, but I am hoping for an improvement.

He’s taking the Zobaline great which is not a surprise as he will eat anything. Haven’t noticed much yet but hopefully with time.

Oh good! I was worried maybe even that was too much but he’s been running so much higher than normal lately

I gave him 7.5 again this morning. Not sure what to do going forward. I have to work today but will be home all night and tomorrow.

I am glad that you shot 7.5 units this morning. Maybe Biddy just needed a little bump for a couple of cycles to get him out of the doldrums. Anyway, I would wait and see for the next few cycles how the 7.5 units goes, and if he starts creeping back up in numbers, you could try a 7.75 dose to just tweak the dose a little — or it may be necessary to go to 8 — but you could do one before you did the other, what do you think?

His sister is much better now thank you! I will be home to check on him but not until +7. I think I’d feel more comfortable trying 7.75 if 7.5 doesn’t work out.

I will try 7.75 this weekend. Took him with me to work today. Physical exam was normal and they did X-rays which were also normal so definitely thinking neuropathy. We’re going to discontinue Solensia since it is not suitable for cats with neurological disorders. He won’t take Dasuquin and YuMove gave him diarrhea. Do you think Cosequin is ok for him to try?

What about Adequan injections? I do these. I do not know of any reason why Cosequin would be harmful.

And he takes methylcobalamin for neuropathy? It’s not in your signature, bit I believe you started it. I can check your spreadsheet for the date.

Yes, I need to update my signature. He started taking Zobaline on 2/10. I hadn’t thought of Adequan. I am worried giving IM injections could cause some distrust from Biddy. He doesn’t know he gets insulin lol.

Holy cow! That was a serious drop to three times less than PMPS. What in the world do you think happened? But after that he seemed to surf along all right. Did you give him any particular food? Was everything the same about his food and meds on that night? I think it is a sort of a bounce — although not in the typical way that people often think of bouncing. His numbers are bobbling around a bit which can indicate that he’s going to clear it before long. I hope so anyway.

He didn’t do too badly yesterday despite starting put in pink. He’s a bit erratic lately to be sure. Biddy is always keeping you on your toes.

How is his mobility? I saw you were trying Gabapentin? If you recently started the Gabapentin— it is possible that it’s behind the diarrhea.

It’s listed as a possible side effect, although not as common as the usual ones like sedation and ataxia.

Yes, he’s already on metro. I think the diarrhea started before yesterday. I’ve been finding loose stools in the box for the last few days but our other cat had been having diarrhea recently so I thought it was her.

I can tell he isn’t walking on his wrists nearly as much but he still doesn’t walk very far and his front legs are pretty shaky if he’s not moving.

Biddy’s numbers look a little better the last two days. It looks like he’s headed for another green today at a similar time to yesterday. How is everything? I hope no more diarrhea?

Didn’t get green today but I agree he’s been looking better! Still having diarrhea but I’m giving him kaopectate and stools are slowly improving. I suspect we weren’t being as diligent keeping everything separate for feeding time now that his sister is on a different diet. Everything that touches food has been washed and labeled with their names now.

This is good about not walking on his wrists as much, but it bothers me about him being shaky. I have had this happen with my own cats and have never gotten any help from the vets about it. My cat Ginger used to have front legs that would do this shaking/vibrating thing.

I’m really hoping it’s just muscle weakness. It’s so hard to get him up and moving but he will do anything for food. I’m trying to feed him different places and even holding the bowl so he stands for a little bit.

I’ve always read that kaopectate in its current formulation with bismuth subsalicylate isn’t safe to give to cats. I guess your vet gave you the dosage though so it is being given with veterinary guidance. I have used Pro Pectalin paste in my cats before, which is just kaolin, pectin, and some probiotics, but it has some sugar in there! But…. now I am looking at my own bottle of Kaopectate liquid in the medicine cabinet, and I see that it has sucrose in it as well. Perhaps it’s not a large amount. There is some artificial flavor… of I guess vanilla in there — the stuff tastes awful, but not as bad as the pink stuff.

Have you tried S. Boulardii for diarrhea?

What about a raised bowl? Would that make it easier for him?

I have also used an Rx version of Immodium in one of my cats (a small pill) when nothing else worked. I can’t really recall if it worked anymore. He had several things going on. He had Clostridium Perfringens Alpha Toxin in his stool and had to take Tylosin to get rid of it. Later on he was diagnosed with IBD and then SCL.

You guys take the best care of Biddy and his sister!

He’s a wild eater. We’ve tried a couple and he just knocks them over lol.
I have this one. Really stable. Not as high as some but very stable and a pretty heavy base. It’s never tipped over.
