ugh……. there are so many things and twists and turns with this idk what. disappointing to see Zenequin didnt help values but maybe helped other things idk.. also a small panel was done. i do not know why. 😑 I’ve noticed he is urinating but not as often and the amounts seem more normal. Idk if this is good or not. He passed some stool and things looked great last night! 🥲 He was feeling pretty ok i think and i even got some purrs this morning.. been a while for those. 🥹

so his ECHO went well apparently; fluids are fine. report back Monday or so.. so he can get them. it was advised i give him 10 mL/pound on Tanyas.. so 130.. im thinking try 100? but i would love him to get enough.. @Suzanne & Darcy 🫶🏼 also, if i spaced it out 50/50, how to separate it? like it doesnt have to be like a 12 hrs split does it?… is a separation of a few hours ok? or how works idk.. 🙃?

and nowww… hes back to not feeling too great. 😔Does that come w the kidney issue territory? Feels ok.. then not so great? Hes eating ok tho which im grateful for.. and his sugar numbers are pretty good. His PS number this morning.. yayy.. 🥹 maybe adjusting to that too idk.. im scared doing TR and he cant eat.. but numbers being higher isnt a choice either.

so we were encouraged to get that Culture Sensitivity because the worsening just appears too fast… and again maybe another antibiotic might work. I wanted to do the test before, vet talked me out of it.. but even then, could come back nothing.. idk. i was advised to see if maybe there was another antibiotic to try. Zenequin doesnt always work.. i knew he was worsening but i thought maybe needed more time, since kidney are 4-6 week courses.. alas. feel lost. just walking the path.. 😊🤡

also said his potassium low. might be cause of his legs.. but its not too too low? based off scale.. 2.9-4.2.. hes at 3.4.. used to be 3.7.. so maybe eventually, but now? say could help his legs tho. but supplementation seems like a pain! i have a hard time reading the Tanya site.. but if needed will. 🙃 say could cause tummy upset…. Sigh.

so.. our vet isnt in today. SMH! so i made an appt w the previous vet (afternoon) cause i just need these tests done.. want/advised a Senior (complete panel + urinalysis) and the Culture and Sensitivity.. im hoping it goes well. perhaps will hear a decent second opinion..

my precious seems so skinny.. i just wanna help him. 🥺❤️‍🔥

Yes. I was just reading your Post and responses on Tanya’s. I’m happy his echo showed his heart was good. You could try 100 mL daily at first? If you are going much higher then you could do 60 mL each time. It doesn’t have to be exactly 12 hours apart.

With the Jarrow B-Right B-Complex capsule. You divide the contents into 10 roughly equal portions. It’s not rocket science so that’s why I say roughly equal portions. It’s not going to hurt him if he gets a little more one day and a little less another day. The important thing is to make sure he gets it daily. I have seen people on Tanya’s group get really hung up about the amount being exact — and they became paralyzed and just refused to give it to their cat at all. I am about to make up some capsules now. I will take size 4 gelatin capsules and pour a little into each capsules and eyeball it until they are roughly even.

Aw, buddy. :( I tried reading through a bunch of your posts, not clear if the leg issues are diabetic neuropathy or something else? Walking on hocks isn't unusual with neuropathy, I don't think. I can't speak to any of these meds or how things interact, unfortunately. Am I reading right that you have a vet appointment today? I hope they'll help you out with these new developments.

Big hugs. I know it's scary, but try not to panic! I'm so glad the echo came back with good results at least. ❤️

The plantigrade walking (down on hocks) and knuckling under and a lot of the other stuff is most likely the high phosphorus. Is he getting binder with every bit of food. How many milligrams?

Yes. Knuckling is most likely due to high phosphorus levels.
oh dear.. the thing is i dont think he likes the binder.. in trying my darndest.. but he doesnt eat snacks/food w it much.. but i will keep doing it. are there any alternatives?.. some ppl were saying on kidney board it could be his potassium (?) but idk.. and NO. the vet did one of them small kidney panels…. and didnt want to stress him w taking more blood. I was pretty mad… 😑 and omg thank you!!!! Vetoquinol Renal K Powder??…

1/2 a teaspoon? Of Binder or of MiraLax? What ?
What are you giving for constipation?

oh i thought you were asking on binder.. 🥲🫶🏼 hes getting 1/2 tsp ideally but i was told to work up to it cause binder causes constipation too and hea already constipated.. so just to do slowly. currently hes on 1/2 tsp Miralax/day.. and its helping! fluids too i think.. hes due soon for some, i was just gonna do a median of 75 mL today.. then maybe start tmw w 50/50?..

Well his last phosphorus I recall seeing was 8 which is too high. It could have skyrocketed since then though. We don’t know unless you have a number from more recent.

If my cat would not eat the food with the binder in it, would buy size 3 or size 2 (empty gelatin capsules) from Amazon and fill them with binder and pop it in before every meal/snack.)

Alternatively, you can also mix it with some water and syringe it in but that is not going to be fun for him or for you. I would only do that if he does not allow you to pill him. I would get a piller if you don’t have one.

at the vet now.. lets see (this was one of the vets who just referred me back to Opthamology when i asked for help on the Telmisartan.. but idc im here for bloodwork and hopefully the Culture.. 😑..)

In the Idexx that my cat's blood work goes to, the low end is 3.7 and anything below that is too low. Supplementation really makes a difference.

Good luck at the vet.

well…. the vet here says that if she had seen this she would have immediately thought infection, esp because of the FD……. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 its a crap shoot… guess we shouldve come back here. but she didnt want to see us.. idk. i told her too haha.. says well i wanted to be sure.. la la… well least she agrees!! sounds like an infection.. yay. and tho Zeniquin usually works, not always.. she said too that w this, she would have done a culture.. why didnt the vet do one?… ugh. nice to hear consensus.. dear me. thing is, course just finished.. so it might not show up in the culture.. 🤡 best to do in a week, but it MIGHT so im gonna do it then if nothing shows do another?..

my poor cat.. 😢

oh lord.. what to do. we still here and his last snack time is due.. idk if we’ll make it back in time.. what to do about shot then?.. half dose? (cuz he gotta eat a little snack when we get back.. :/ )

Test when you get back. If he's high enough, then you don't need to worry about withholding food for a couple hours before the shot. By "high enough" I mean 100's or above. You only worry about not feeding before the shot if you are worried he'd be too low without the food influence to shoot. If you know about how much of a food bump he gets from the snack, you can factor that in. For example, if you feed, and you know he gets a 30 point bump from food, then subtract that 30 points from his PMPS to see if it's safe to shoot. When I say 30 points, that is just an example, you have to sub in whatever that number is for Pudge.

The order of things is take urine, do a culture to see what bacteria is present. Then decide what antibiotic you need to treat that particular bacteria. If you aren't 100% sure he's had Convenia before, I'd be careful about it. It was developed to treat skin infections. Don't think it'd do much for a kidney infection.

People used to give Adequan to treat arthritis before Solensia came out. It should be OK to give. With low potassium, I suspect that is what is causing his leg weakness.

i seeeee….. yknow.. im sorry i never figured this out. been following the 2 hr snack rule still this whole time.. that bad? woulda saved me time.. haha. (but i love him so i dont mind..) so he can just eat? But test first? 🥹 and can give shot?.. idk for some reason, its like ingrained in me since the beginning to do this.. cuz its safer.. show a number not influenced by food? 🥲

(i also tried to do so in the past but it seemed to vary.. feed him and take his +1s and that will tell me? 😭🫶🏼)

me too!! ok!! and i was thinking the same.. like.. i think we’ll pass on Convenia.. i wanna see what comes back. if nothing, we redo it next Wed/Thurs.. ❤️‍🩹 ~ should we do the Adequan?.. im trying to see what the blood says first maybe.. also should do a urinaylsis?.. that will take a bit tho, think tmw..

I really have nothing to add here, but just wanted to say that I'm so glad for others on the board who are able to offer such invaluable guidance and support to you. I'm following his/your progress and keeping you and precious Pudge in my thoughts.
💘💘💘💘💘 tysm!!! thats very ok.. things woof haha.. 🤡🫶🏼 and just so grateful to be here too…. Im so happy we have here to come and wonderful friends like you.. tysm for saying .. i dont know where we’d be …… we could use them and certainly feel them tyyy 🫶🏼😭❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🔥💝💖💘

his potassium is low!! got a gel to start immediately.. same maker Renal +K.. staying w 75 mL.. but she thinks 100?.. maybe will wait for report than up? or think ok? i been hearing even higher is better..

I would use the powder too. When my cats needed it I crushed pills. I always get powder now. Sorry things are so difficult now but happy to see the echo was okay and you can give fluids.

I was unable to find info on use past the tube date so glad you have powder.

also.. doctor stated that B12 is best as injection.. 🫶🏼said to do it through the fluids line.. oral is poorly absorbed.. its very affordable and available theough Chewy ????

thoughts? 💘..

The fluid recommendations can vary a lot from vet to vet. Some say 100 mL is max. Some say more. You can see the different recommendations on felinecrf. It shows you how much difference there can be in the recommended amount of sub-q fluids.
