So.. at the ER. Bebe was eating and drinking ok, even doing little stretchies.. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ญ he seemed to feel much better w the fluids โค๏ธโ€ he got his snacks.. then last ate around 3 am, then around 5:30 was drinking water but having trouble.. tried feeding. wouldnt eat. He didnt feel good.. purring. Ive run him in.. think hes dehydrated. i didnt give the whole 75 mL.. but this has all happened fast.

:/ i forgot to take his number before we left.. theyre using AlphaTrak.. $45.. wut a racket. ๐Ÿ˜… weโ€™re just doing it.. they wonder if he has ketones. nooo. ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜ญ

I think dehydration.. but we seeing what they say. im just hoping they do a good and fair job. ๐Ÿง

::UPDATE::
we got lucky! the doctor at the ER we got is one we seen a number of years ago and i couldnt remember her name.. but shes who we have this morning! im so thankful.. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿฅน

so his ketones and glucose are ok (197) not great but not terrible terrible.. (he needs his Lantus.. been 3 cycles..) and told her a short summary on things.. testing his kidney values.. and electrolytes.. apparently isnt too dehydrated so could wait a bit while the shift changed.. and the morning doctor came in. Im thinking now maybe he just feeling sick w the kidney things.. his little kidneys need help.. and the Cerenia was running out maybe by 5:30.. they do say UP to 24 hrs.. kidney forum advised its ok to give him that everyday for time being, also, too.. esp w the antibiotic, his high values, etc..

she says he looks very good for his age. they all do.. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿซ .. and im like hes been pretty ok and was doing pretty good til this.. ๐Ÿคก settles on gonna give him Cerenia injection, so i dont gotta give him a pill.. and their doing his blood.. a small panel for kidney and electrolytes again.. ugh. then will go frm there w home meds.. treatment..

also, she said Cerenia good for vomiting AND nausea.. so yayy. think will get some Zofran too.. but thoughts? ๐Ÿ’–

now we waitโ€ฆ.... ๐Ÿคก

Since you are there, maybe get a small amount of it so you have it in hand?
And have them write you a script so you walk out with it to get cheaply at your local human pharmacy.
(that way, you donโ€™t have to deal with your regular pharmacy, since you were already there)

You could also ask them if they think a prescription for mirtazapine would be helpful for appetite if you donโ€™t have a prescription.
But just be aware, they will probably charge you an arm and a leg if you were to buy it from them at the ER, you could always ask what their cost is.
I think on chewy itโ€™s somewhere around $40

Iโ€™m so glad you got a good staff and a doctor you like. And Iโ€™m glad he looks like heโ€™s doing well. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Both of you certainly need a break. I really hope he feels much better very soon ๐Ÿค—, You are doing so much for him. Make sure you are taking care of yourself too.โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

::UPDATE 2::
home now.. so nuggets creatine has gone down! 4 something.. from 6.. but is a different machine/test.. she was happy w that. his BUN tho is over 100 still.. which is why hes feeling sick/cant eat.. so we got an injection for him, Cerenia.. also some Mirtazipine (Mirtaz?) for appetite.. i declined that, to see maybe about getting it from his vet cuz its pricey but might go back to get it.. hes still not eating as well as id likeโ€ฆ. :(

treatment was to go home, see if heโ€™ll eat, then give appetite thing if not.. but he isnt eating that great. drinking rn. and the fluids!!!! omg.. i shoulda just had them do it.. was ordered to give 120 mL.. every other day. not so much if eating/drinking well. and not sure if got a little more in or not.. and he was growling and hidingโ€ฆ i hope i didnt hurt him too bad.. (got some 20 gauge needles from her!! shes great.. might just tide us over.. ) also spoke to nurse she said i havent.. he had eventful morning and then fluids are uncomfortable.. idk. did i do wrong??.. all i know i wont do more than 100-75 maybe at a time.. :(

thinking to go to primary.. see if theyโ€™ll give me the Mirtaz..

Now just sitting here.. contemplating what to do. we needed to try his antibiotic before his stomach went.. but alas. :/

๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’˜ im so sorry i didnt see this.. but she didnt suggest Zofran at all; just the Cerenia is good for both vomiting and nausea.. she did suggest Miratazipine sp but they wanted $120 bucks.. am going to the primary i think soon to see on getting it cuz hes still not eating that well.. :(

us too!!!!! ๐Ÿ’˜ tyโ€ฆ ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฅน im worried about his eating. :( : (

tysm!!!!! ๐Ÿ’– me too.. its hard.. i put all my stuff to the side.. will try to do so.. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Did you get the ondansetron (Zofran is the more expensive brand name)? Oh, just saw you didn't - too bad. It's better for nausea and targets a different nausea receptor than Cerenia so it's good to give both.

Iโ€™m sure if you called them back and asked for ondansetron (generic) to be called to your pharmacy, they may just do that for you.
Tell them you forgot to ask and would like to get it for Pudge.

I knew mirtaz would be around that cost at the ER.
I paid $100 at the ER since I was desperate last year (and had to drive back there, which was 40 minutes away, since it was on a weekend and my vet was closed) ๐Ÿ˜ข

But then I had my vet approved it on chewy and had it shipped to me so that I have it in the house in case I need it. Not gonna pay that price again if I donโ€™t have to, but obviously when youโ€™re desperate, you gotta do what you gotta do.

๐Ÿ’ฏ.. ill try that if the primary gives me a hard time ~ going now to get some Mirtaz.. will ask on Ondansetron (Zofran).. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–

::UPDATE 3::
hes eating.. but small amounts.. hes laying down.. then walking around. growling at me sometimes when i come near.. :( i regret giving so much fluid.. but i understood its to help him.. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

trying to get him to eat so he can take antibiotic and insulin.. but thinking he definitely needs a 1/2 dose tonite on the latter but idk.. ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž his BG earlier was 197.. might be why he dont feel great either. this is hard to navigateโ€ฆโ€ฆ sometimes i wonder if its just too late? this was informed on too late.. but i know even at these stages ppl manage.. idk. Its hard, just me and him.. ๐Ÿ˜žโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

well going to go rn to primary.. he needs to eat better if the Mirtaz will help that.. and will ask also for Ondansetronโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ญ

::UPDATE 4::

got the Mirataz.. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ.. of course try some?.. maybe itll help him eat better?

called to get script for Ondansetron.. lets see if theyll give it to me..

anything to expect w like side effects on Mirataz?.. โ˜น๏ธ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ..

he dont feel too good. ๐Ÿซ .. tip toeing around.. his eyes have gotten worse a little too.. heard kidney stuff can also do that. ๐Ÿ˜–

Look up a company called Astro's Oil. They have a concentrated fish oil and a scrub additive for food that has helped out Indy a lot. It helps with his IBD but he has zero kidney issues even at almost 18. His older sister who had CKD used both and they helped her BUN and creatinine numbers tremendously!

im starting to wonder if its just too late.. but will look into. got him some Kidney Support Gold.. ๐Ÿซ ๐Ÿ’˜

:::UPDATE 5:::

put on some Mirataz.. hes still not eating well. the ER vet wont prescribe Ondansetron cause she thinks the Cerenia is enoughโ€ฆโ€ฆ im starting to wonder if things are just too late. Said to ask his Primary. idk. weโ€™ll see how he eats at 2 pm..

Nurse from ER said tho that i should try baby food.. know theres some brands suggested here.. will see.. she said Gerber is better; but think i heard on Beechnut?.. idkโ€ฆ.

hes also 110โ€ฆ. Depot is draining a bit i guess.. :( ive meant to check numbers more.. but he was 197 at ER around 7-8.. ๐Ÿซ

this is hard to carry. i just feel thankful hes been with me almost 18 yrsโ€ฆ. And i wonder if this is just a lost cause.. pushing things on him.. hes also acting upset and angry. he doesnt feel well. :( i was hoping the fluids would help him!!! hes been so angry and not acting too good sinceโ€ฆ.. like ok but not. ๐Ÿ˜ž

He is being grumpy because he doesn't feel good. The CKD was just diagnosed this month and his creatinine has already shown improvement! It is a lot right now and only you can judge his quality of life....but don't rush into any irreversible decision. Cats that are Indy and Pudge's age are going to have bad days. Questioning whether they are done, I feel like that is normal. *Huge hugs*

tysmโ€ฆ๐Ÿ’–.. think so?! yeahโ€ฆ probably. exactly.. thank you for this. im just frustrated.. ๐Ÿ˜– also havent eaten.. which is bad. will do so. i was just told tho i need to go out and get baby foodโ€ฆ. :/ its true.. im just ughโ€ฆ also the fluids.. are pooled around his arm. ๐Ÿ˜ญ idk if thats badโ€ฆ.

HUGE HUGS BACK!!!!

Nope! The fluid does that sometimes. As long as they can move around, don't stress about where the fluid bubble is. Eat something, he can wait for his baby food while you take care of yourself. We can't pour from an empty cup.

Baby food is good if he will eat it. ***Just meat. No onions or garlic in it.

Will your primary vet give you script for ondansetron? since ER wonโ€™t (thatโ€™s stupid of them!)
** it can help if heโ€™s nauseous.

He just feels crappy as Jessica said. We need to get some control of all going on here ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
Eat something so you have some energy ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿซ‚

Also Hills A/D canned cat food from the vet is good to get them over a hump and eating again. I gave it to Ivy when she had pancreatitis and she really liked it. I only gave it for a meal or two to get her over the home.
Itโ€™s nutrient dense so you only need a little bit and itโ€™s very soft so if you need to syringe a little bit and do his mouth, you could do that I think you had a little teeny bit of water and you could probably feed him if you needed to.
Do you have any of that in the house? You could probably get a few cans from the vet.

Talk to the primary, try to get ondansetron prescription before the weekend if you can.

Either Beechnut or Gerber, the only ingredients are meat or water. There is turkey, chicken and ham flavours.

Hills A/D or Royal Canin Recovery are good low carb options. Neko liked the RC Recovery - sometimes after giving her a syringe or two of it she would eat it on her own. Getting food in his tummy will make him feel better too.

i gave the Zenequin and he also ate more ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ im so happyโ€ฆโ€ฆ.. omg ok to use Zenequin w Mirtaz?.. assuming so.. im paranoid about everything rnโ€ฆ.

exactly ๐Ÿ˜• that was another nurse who said that ~ OUR nurse had reservations like us.. if heโ€™ll eat it and u have to watch out for stomach upset w a new food.. obviously was my thing. he got sensitive stomach. :/

I asked today, the primary.. will see what comes of it. :/ yeahโ€ฆ ER said she wasnt comfortable. idk. ๐Ÿคก

thats good to hear in a way.. im thinking be dyin. ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿ˜ญ.. u guys right!!!!!โ€ฆ.. i keep putting it off.. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ but he ate and got his meds.. hopes to keeping em..

aww ivy ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’– sure could ~ just he got the sensitive tum. ๐Ÿซ  so idk. i will keep this in mind tho!! if we gotta.. nurse said he really should be eating his food.. thats whats normal right? ๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’–โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

certainly will try!! i requested it when i picked up his Mirtazโ€ฆ. (that gurl at reception is like a deer in headlights with any medical questionโ€ฆ. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)

Ok!! i did indeed check the Gerber turkey; says turkey water corn starch.. sorry on the corn starch i guess?.. ๐Ÿคก๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ.. oh well if need it.

wendyy he ate for me.. more. Even gave his Zenequin.. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’– ~ im hoping so..

:::UPDATE 6::::
This baby ateโ€ฆโ€ฆ he ateโ€ฆ. ๐Ÿ˜ญ ate pretty well tooโ€ฆ. Seems Mirtaz takes over an hour, least today.. he ate well enough he even got his Zenequin.. am assuming is ok w the Mirtaz. ๐Ÿ˜ถ i didnt wanna miss an opportunity to maybe get that in.. cuz maybe thats it..

He ate his treats and his food.. took his meds.. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Heโ€™d like to go outside.. gonna wait a little more and going to take him. Of course he can go ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

โ“: ER Doctor said it was ok to give him his Revolution cause his ears a little dirty.. hes susceptible to mites. do so?..

and what should we do on his little insulin?.. ๐Ÿ˜ญ what are options depending he is eating/not?.. 1/2 dose always on my mind but idk.. (think the depots draining.. he 106..)

Yeah, Indy will be 18 in April. I am always told how well he looks for his age and my anxiety will kick in screaming at me that I'm doing something wrong....just because.

Glad he ate so well for you. :-). That is fantastic news.
us too!!! ๐Ÿ’– we get told too.. just ugh. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซ  doing best.. pudgles 18 in june. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ
