Help! Newly diagnosed and in the ER yesterday for 26 blood glucose.

So while we are on the subject of syringes, when you draw the insulin into the syringe, do not expel any excess insulin back into the ProZinc vial. Once it’s in the syringe, any excess should be squirted out onto a paper towel or into a sink, etc. The reason for this is that insulin syringes have lubricants in them and you don’t want to risk contaminating your vial by re-injecting the insulin back into the ProZinc vial. Perhaps you were already aware of this?

Continuation / Newly diagnosed and in the ER yesterday for 26 blood glucose.

I just noticed in your spreadsheet that you are discontinuing the glycobalance. That is good because it is too high in carbs for him. It seems like you have tapered it off so that is just perfect. If he is on an all wet, LC diet we will have more flexibility with his dosing methods as well.

I’m happy to see he is stable in pink (well not happy about 300s but happy about the stability.) I feel like this really gives us a good idea of where he is and that he will be ready to start tomorrow— probably with a .6 dose for a few days (depending upon ketones and his BG numbers of course). Or a .5 if you end up going with the U-40s.

I am really proud of you. You must handle stress very well. I can only imagine how distressing it was to have him drop so dangerously low! I have seen some sad outcomes from numbers that low, and I am just so relieved and happy and optimistic for Oliver to do REALLY well going forward!

I would like to continue this thread until tomorrow morning, when you begin insulin.

Otherwise, if one of the moderators requests you to begin a new thread, a good option is to please to make a post over on the ProZinc forum. You can entitle it something like, Oliver starting insulin tomorrow January 14.

I will see the post on the ProZinc forum!

Yes!! Great stress control! you are going to be a pro in no time, Congrats, I can say, if you follow Suzanne's advice on dosing without blinking an eye, like I did/do, I promise you will have your precious fur baby stabilized sooner than later 🫶

You are so kind. I have been faking it…. Stress control is not my forte. Oliver is technically my 17 year old daughter’s cat and when we saw that low reading I practically blacked out so it was a joint effort to get him to the emergency vet. Getting my syringes ordered for early morning delivery right now and headed over to create a new thread on the prozinc thread!!
