so.. finally got some answers frm the kidney board. some really great ones.. they think he has kidney infection. πŸ˜• ckd is slow to develop; when its fast, plus other markers like white blood cells and things, can indicate needing antibiotics. i was veryyy pleased to hear this because this whole thing has left me terribly unsettled. it hasn’t sat right at all.

πŸ€”

they think this probably started in August…… said that a lot of vets dont know how to pinpoint kidney infections or recognize them if they first see ckd.. what we pay em for, idk. πŸ˜‘ even i noticed high white blood cells count.

❓: so.. im waiting to call on the doctor because i just want to be familiar w the antibiotics for this purpose.. posed this over there and anyone here know of the ones used/can? πŸ€— i also read there, or maybe here (?), the round needs to go at least 7-10 days?

im learning about fluids and holding off a minute.. cuz i wanna make sure he needs them rn? or should i just get him some? idk.. πŸ˜“ think he could use em.. not sure the amount. want to start w 1/4-1/3.. see how he does. one vet says he has heart murmur, this current one says no….. idk wut. πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ

i think it very worthwhile to try antibiotics.. and if thats just been it……….. woof. πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘ idk.. going to order the binder. ugh.. all this has been a lot. im trying to do it all at once. and i dont appreciate how the medical professionals know less than we do sometimes. 🀑

his numbers are doing ok πŸ₯°.. pressure seems ok too. i had to skip yesterday cuz i was beat frm all this and so tired!!!! did get some rest.. and still need a nap. 😭

ugh.. 🫢🏼

This is all outside my knowledge base, but I'm so glad to hear that it might just be a round of antibiotics for Pudge! ❀️

Honestly, your experience reminds me a little bit of what Gen and I went through in September. My regular vet (who I love) was on medical leave, and the senior partner at the practice diagnosed him with terminal oral cancer. She gave him 1-2 months. I was, obviously, devastated. But ... then that weekend, I did a little research, and came to the conclusion that based on Gen's symptomatic history, he would already have been dead if that was the right dx. Sure enough, the results came back and it was severe periodontal disease/bacterial infection not cancer. I was furious that she'd put me through all that terror and preemptive grief for nothing - but also very relieved and glad that she'd been wrong.

Hopefully somebody will come by with some actual advice, but big hugs and hopes to you and Pudge!

I'm glad you're getting some good feedback from the CKD forum! It sounds like you're getting up the learning curve. I hope the vet works with you regarding an infection diagnosis. And, like Staci said, wouldn't it be great if he just needs an antibiotic. Hang in there!! Give Pudge some kisses and head scritches from us.
