12/28-BEAR- AMBG 47

Looks like the food trial continues to work, +11 wouldn’t really have been necessary since you tested earlier in the morning, it’s not being used anymore to decide if you want to give insulin ;).

why the limes thooo? 😩 as in what would have happened if i didnt wake up to test/feed?

C’mon bear, we like this progress but could yah hover around a low green at least overnight haha

Looking great! 🄰
Had he been laying around quite a bit before that test? Regan's Monster goes low when she's just being a bum for a while
Im not sure, i was sleeping 😓 lol he did get some new toys for xmas, so maybe was running around.. i cant remember where i found him exactly lol

I know it’s hard to see numbers under 50, but you are using a human meter and not giving insulin. It’s not uncommon to see cats who are going into remission to have numbers in the 40s.
I feel like 50 doesnt freak me out so much since he hasn’t had any insulin, 40s enhh, 30s, yup lol

I guess my fear is like, how low is he gonna go on his own? šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I guess even to that point, long term diabetic cats who are being given insulin and whose caregivers are following TR would be taking a reduction when the cat goes under 40. Without insulin, he’s just managing on his own.

And getting off the juice is the easiest thing you can do. My cat just one day decided... Nope! Don't need it, don't want it. Looks like your baby said the same

I’ve seen the odd few cats get into 30s, so if you get a number like that, as Wendy suggested previously maybe retest again. It could be a function of not enough frequent snacks overnight. I’d be more worried if you saw the limes, fed and he continued to stay in lower numbers. Like I said, even non-diabetic cats can test on human meter in 40s.. You’re probably due for a vet visit down the road here to get his potassium levels checked, you could mention it and see if the vet has any concerns. Trying to find a few more spreadsheets for examples of kitties either in remission or going through a trial…just to help alleviate your concerns.

Yes it does seems to be when hes gone longer without food.. im worried that if we bumped him to higher lc @ night that it would skew his progress? And we want him OTJ 🧃 LOL

Since we recently had some blue preshots, one of the reasons for the food trial and feeding at +9 is to see how his pancreas uses the carbs, usually 3 hours after if you see the preshot lower you know his pancreas is doing its thing ;).

At this point, there is no depot left, this is all Bear's pancreas. I like Christie's suggestions with food. His pancreas is recently healed and needs to be coddled.

Of kitties that were never diabetic that I've tested, I've seen 40's or low 50's. One of those went up to 70's when on prednisolone. Don't worry about an LC that is higher than he's used to.

Gooo little pancreas!! šŸ„¹šŸ’š
Dont worry about the higher lc skewing his numbers??

I didn’t word that very well. Now that you are seeing more consistent greens, that’s a good sign, and since you aren’t giving insulin, we don’t need to be looking for onsets and nadirs. You’ll see because you won’t be getting any more blue preshots. I only mentioned the higher numbers because it was recent, and when doing a food trial sometimes kitties will show they need some insulin support if the preshots creep into blues and they have been fed at +9. Remember, you are watching for feeding at +9, then whether the preshot comes down.

He's doing so well! Gooooooooo Bear!!!
And as an aside, I'm learning so much from this process because I've not seen anyone do a food trial before, only an OTJ trial.
It's so cool watching them go into remission (ANTI-JINX x 1million)!!

Ahh got it! We weren’t prepared for this so soon 🄹
even bear bear is confused haha.. he followed me upstairs to the bathroom (our test spot) and was like ā€œhey lady, what gives?! Where’s the churu!!ā€ haha did sneak in a poke and some churu just to keep him in the habit 🄹

lol well you can still test a little in between if you want to. Nice little in between test ;)

Have you seen this post: Reminder: *earning* reductions and starting OTJ trials Bear didn't look like what we want to see on a spreadsheet as ready for an OTJ trial when he started going lime. Just two nights ago he saw 173. For kitties who look like they might be ready, but still seeing those higher numbers, we do a bit of a food trial before the OTJ trial, basically giving him some more time to ditch the higher blues and making sure he's getting food at good times to help the process. Some cats in this situation do need to go back on a very small dose of insulin, so a food trial takes some of the pressure off. We do want strong remissions.

That makes sense! Thanks, Wendy 🄰
