You will need your rest tonight it's been a stressful one, but if you and your cat (what's your cat's name?) we would like you to create your signature and spreadsheet, this way we can all be on the same page, and better guide you with low numbers and dosing, you can if you like take a look at Corky's spreadsheet click below in blue Corky's Spreadsheet, we will always be here for you, let's hope it does not happen again with low numbers, but if is close to shot time 1 hour before make a new thread with the same title but place a 911 in front to get quick response, I am always checking every 1/2 hour the Forum, but I do not give dosing advise, Suzanne does, please continue to post his BG at least for several hours until he can reach the 80's, then you can rest, continue to let us know his BG by the hour, unless it spirals down again, then you will repeat the process, we are here if you need us, in theYou mean early users of insulin, or early in the downward day curve?
I gave liquid snack but I just heard here that’s not enough so I put a teaspoon of renal wet food into his mouth after I gave 1/2 ml of honey as recommended above.
Let’s save this for after Bob’s numbers are rising consistently. You will need your rest tonight it's been a stressful one, but if you and your cat (what's your cat's name?) we would like you to create your signature and spreadsheet, this way we can all be on the same page, and better guide you with low numbers and dosing, you can if you like take a look at Corky's spreadsheet click below in blue Corky's Spreadsheet, we will always be here for you, let's hope it does not happen again with low numbers, but if is close to shot time 1 hour before make a new thread with the same title but place a 911 in front to get quick response, I am always checking every 1/2 hour the Forum, but I do not give dosing advise, Suzanne does, please continue to post his BG at least for several hours until he can reach the 80's, then you can rest, continue to let us know his BG by the hour, unless it spirals down again, then you will repeat the process, we are here if you need us, in the

I read it on their own website here https://vetcentre.purina.co.uk/sites/default/files/product_materials_pdf/VPG - NF Feline.pdfThis list has it at over 31 percent carbs if it’s the Purina NF Advanced

Can you tell me the first five ingredients of the renal food and tell me if it has rice in it or another form of starch?I read it on their own website here https://vetcentre.purina.co.uk/sites/default/files/product_materials_pdf/VPG - NF Feline.pdf
We have dry food but since he was hospitalised with acute renal failure and switched from Senvelgo to insulin last week, he is not stable at all and not eating well. The last two days, he doesn’t like any food anymore …Keep the portions small
What about dry food? Do you have any of the renal dry food? Dry isn’t our preferred option when trying to manage low numbers, but if he won’t eat anything else you may need to try it.
You are not, by any chance at the very beginning or end of your Libre’s life cycle are you?
Well right now when we are trying to manage lower numbers he needs to eat small amounts. What is the Libre saying now?We have dry food but since he was hospitalised with acute renal failure and switched from Senvelgo to insulin last week, he is not stable at all and not eating well. The last two days, he doesn’t like any food anymore …
Thanks a lot, he is at 70 again now so for now I think he’s safe and we are now at almost 6 hours after his shot so I think it will be OK for today. My goodness, I’m totally exhausted now, it’s 1 am but I don’t think I will be sleeping soon!

Oh and yes, we are at day two of our Libre. Does that mean anything, good or bad?Keep the portions small

I didn’t know cats liked honey?Just keep the food coming. Will he eat it if you mix a little honey into the food?
What is his current Prozinc dose? Please reduce his dose by .25 units beginning with his next shot. Thanks a lot, he is at 70 again now so for now I think he’s safe and we are now at almost 6 hours after his shot so I think it will be OK for today. I did not make a spreadsheet yet because his situation is still very uncertain and all my attention goes to keeping him stable without neglecting my husband and daughter. It’s been very heavy lately and we don’t know if he will even make it through the end of the year![]()
Do they sell Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers canned food in Belgium?
Oh I’m sorry to hear that! Is it Mr. Darcy? And will he be OK in the end or do they not know that yet?Well right now when we are trying to manage lower numbers he needs to eat small amounts. What is the Libre saying now?
I am not unsympathetic about this either. I have a cat at home (renal failure/ severe rhinitis, infection) who has not eaten for three days. Today was the third day and I had to syringe feed her. Going home to do it again.
No, Darcy died in 2021. Also from complications of kidney failure. He had acromegaly. This is Darcy’s sister.Oh I’m sorry to hear that! Is it Mr. Darcy? And will he be OK in the end or do they not know that yet?
He started at 1 unit one week ago, which was not enough. At the vet they raised to 1.5 in the morning and kept 1 in the evening, because he didn’t have access to food at night at the hospital. At home we started at 1.25 two days ago but his kidneys qquickly declined again and the vet strongly insisted on giving him 1.5 to get his sugar stabilised so his kidneys can recover. Because of his acro, too low numbers would be very unlikely, they said … And here we are then. So I guess we go back to 1.25 then in the morning, depending on his preshot value probably? What is his current Prozinc dose? Please reduce his dose by .25 units beginning with his next shot.
I will do that, thanks a lot for your help, what would I have done without you guys?!Please post on the ProZinc forum tomorrow and let me know how everything is going. I understand the stress you are going through. I am in the thick of it too.
Oooh I’m sorry, I didn’t know thatNo, Darcy died in 2021. Also from complications of kidney failure. He had acromegaly. This is Darcy’s sister.
Thanks for these lovely wordsI know is my pleasure to be able to give back to a new member, you’re doing great! You will be great!
With regard to his numbers— honey will raise blood glucose quickly but doesn’t have a long-lasting impact on BG. It wears off quickly. If his numbers go high it could be a bounce (I can explain if someone else has not already done so) or just that his ProZinc has worn off.He started at 1 unit one week ago, which was not enough. At the vet they raised to 1.5 in the morning and kept 1 in the evening, because he didn’t have access to food at night at the hospital. By the way, what should we expect to see in his values with this honey an hour ago? Will they start skyrocketing soon after nadir?
I can believe that, this has been very stressful for him too.I’m not familiar withe kidney issue but it could be from so much food he ate and so much of it, the honey,,the stress, rest, he’s going to be ok, Suzanne made me understand that if I get sick or not sleep I couldn’t function to help Corky, if is 3:00 Am where are you? Is 7:30 here in US
Yes. Thank you so much, Maria. It’s been a really bad 2025 with already losing two cats and looking like I could lose two more very soon. We are fighting on. Things were fairly stable for about a month, but now we have taken a turn for the worse.I’m so sorry for all that you’re going thru Suzanne, you take care of yourself
If you can sleep, go ahead and we will catch up tomorrow.I can believe that, this has been very stressful for him too.
Here in Belgium it is 1.30 am now![]()
I feel your pain, I’m in the same situation, I have no idea how I can keep going like this, but still I do. We would do everything for our fur babies, rightWe still need to get you set up with a spreadsheet. I can ask @Marje and Gracie to set one up for you so that you don’t have to do anything or stress. I understand. Most days I am just trying to keep my head above water these days and I spend all my time trying to get these cats to eat or giving meds or subcutaneous fluids or just worrying and stressing or taking someone to the vet, etc. etc.
Absolutely!I feel your pain, I’m in the same situation, I have no idea how I can keep going like this, but still I do. We would do everything for our fur babies, right![]()
He did indeed have the test, not because of any symptoms but because at university clinic they thought he was very big. But his value was only a bit above range, confirming he was big by nature but confirming also he was about to have higher numbers soon, after which he also developped diabetes. How was his acromegaly diagnosed? Did he have the IGF-1 test?
He does indeed have a very strong and brave personality, he’s adorable in his own wayOh wow. I just looked at Bob’s photo. He is so handsome. I love his markings! He has heart and personality. I can see it!
Thanks. I’ll do that, Bob already did the sameIf you can sleep, go ahead and we will catch up tomorrow.
Sometimes the Libre sensors will get a little wacky for a little while if they are new and also at the end of the two weeks — also if the cat is lying on it. Pressure on the sensor will cause a false reading.Oh and yes, we are at day two of our Libre. Does that mean anything, good or bad?![]()
I'm so so sorry! You take care of yourself, You are my Hero and Corky's Guardian Angel, for those beautiful souls you take ofYes. Thank you so much, Maria. Good morning, well from here is 6:00 AM, 253 is most likely from all the carbs we gave yesterday 150?is great please give him always, two hours after shot a small snack low carbs , and several small meals like every 4 hours until his next shot a full meal to keep the insulin in check by having this schedule we avoid spikes up or down, important that you have handy what is called a HYPO KIT this should include: Honey or Karo syrup, some medium carb foods between 11-15% carbs and soñé high carb foods between 16-24% carbs, gravies, this way we can stabilize his BG faster than yesterdays just woke up and feeding my cats and insulin, later I will send you some links that will help you calculate the food. if you can please create tge spreadsheet and signature. I hope you had a good rest, today will be a better day, and it does get easier, you did great yesterday!Good morning, or afternoon for you guys
Quick update on Bob's situation: his numbers went up to 253 on the Libre this morning before his next shot. I gave him 1.25 unit, and a bit more than three hours later he is at 150. I hope he doesn't keep going down as fast as last night ... I'll keep you posted!
Thanks again for your help last night, I can only keep repeating how grateful I am![]()
