Sunny's out of remission due to steroids for triaditis/IBD treatment.
Thanks @Allie & Gen ! It's too bad our boys couldn't stay in remission, but hopefully they'll both be there again soon.I hope the transition to Lantus goes smoothly and that Sunny is feeling better than I see he was yesterday! My cat is also an "out of remission" diabetic, and it's certainly an ... interesting experience.

I had to look up triaditis, at I've never dealt with that. I do have a lot of time/cats with ibd though sadly. I've got 4 at the moment, and 3 are food related. I've had 1 in the past that was so bad, Nothing worked until we tried raw rabbit. That was his fix. The ones I've got not have to say specialty foods. They're allergic to fish, all poultry, and gums. 1 eats cooked pork tenderloin or beef. 2 are eating Instinct Rabbit Limited ingredient. If I can keep them out of foods they're allergic to, they do well. Also, thc-free cbd can help if you're not into the heavy duty stuff for maintenance. I've given it for several things. Pain, arthritis, nausea, as appetite stimulant, and mostly for inflammation.triaditis
thanks @tiffmaxee - I think it's working -- he's due for repeat bloodwork in a week, and we'll know more then. He seemed to be feeling way better up until this weekend when he got a cerenia stuck in his mouth and foamed at the mouth for awhile -- it seemed to trigger him feeling bad again. That was 2 nights ago and he's still not over it. I can't tell how much of his bad feeling is from high BGs and how much is from the IBD.... Hopefully he'll get good bloodwork results and we can taper down the steroids soon.Sorry about the diagnosis. Is the budesonide controlling the IBD I hope?
He's lost some weight recently since switching to the Rawz rabbit food diet (15.5 at last vet visit). I know the .5 is probably too low... I was considering starting at 1 unit - but I'll bump him up in a few days if he needs it. One thing that's making me more cautious right now is that I don't know what the heck i can use for HC food if he goes hypo. I have a variety of foods but he's only allowed rabbit now... I have one form of higher carb food but it's only 15% carbs (royal canin pr). I'm still researching that...Sorry to see SunnyBear’s back. How is his weight been currently? It may be that 0.5u is a bit too low a dose to start, given that he is not newly diabetic, and is returning from The Falls.
Thank you @Christie & Maverick!I did catch up a bit on your last post, ? - 12/10 Sunny AMBG 316 - potentially out of remission
You’d probably be looking at either Karo or honey to have on hand, which you can add a couple of drops to his usual food in low numbers
Good idea. I have the karo on hand.
