I don't know if this is what I should expect after an earned reduction, but I'm feeling frustrated and discouraged. It feels as though we were making progress, and now we've gone back on it. I don't know. [Edit: okay, adding the ? prefix. I feel like maybe I don't need urgent answers, but gosh would I love some perspective right about now.]

Also he has lost all enthusiasm for the wet food in the last few days, going straight for the dry food I'm trying to wean him off of. (He's eating wet too, but not first and not as much as I'd like. Appetite fluctuations are not unusual for him and never have been, but if he's going to only eat part of his meals, I wish it wouldn't be the dry!)

I wound up ordering a small bag of Dr. Elsey's so I can at least move him to a lower-carb option as an intermediary step; I also took a leaf out of @Lauren & Esse 's book and ordered a broth topper. (Most of the cans of FF I've opened this week, ordered from Chewy, have been a lot drier than the ones I started with which were ordered from the local grocery store. I don't know what that's about.) These should arrive tomorrow.

Having an at-home cleaning and organizing kind of day. At least the building manager finally got around to doing something, and the apartment is actually a normal temperature today.

I hope everyone's having a lovely Sunday, and kitties are surfing safely!

Hi Allie, after a reduction the depot needs to rebalance so give it a few cycles to get a picture of what’s going on.

I hope he comes down a bit and eventually we can get rid of the stinky pinkies and those fugly reds 🥰

Hope you got lots done today and you both had a good day.
Have a safe surf🌊🏄‍♂️ and a calm night 😻 :bighug:

Sigh. I'm trying to be patient, but I would have liked to stay in those blues and greens. Even the yellows.

We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow; I'll be able to get gabapentin and a new less limited Libre sensor prescription, get a more accurate ketone test (I've tried but he does not want to cooperate so far, unsurprisingly), and talk about dental plans and potential holiday plans. And I guess we'll see what she says about the dosage - this reduction puts us back where she had us to begin with, after all.

He was very perky and friendly with my old friend who came over for a couple of hours for dinner, but in general I don't get the sense that he's feeling his best, and with numbers above 400 I can't blame him. My poor sweet boy. We're going to figure this out.

Thanks, Ivy, I appreciate the support. ❤️

And I DID, in fact, get a lot done today. Poor Gen took refuge on top of the kitchen cabinets for awhile while I was on something of a cleaning rampage. 😅

You’ll get there. It takes time and lots of patience. You’re already making strides to get systems in place to improve Gen’s condition!

Good luck at the vet appointment!

I stalk Ivy when I think she may pee, usually after her +2 snack in the am (I watch her on the camera in her room) and I just come in the room once she begins to pee (they usually won’t stop once started)
And I dip the test strip in the urine puddle before it sinks into the litter.
You’ll figure out what works for both of you.
It’s all new and it takes time to figure out their patterns.

I never paid close attention to trying to figure out when exactly Ivy peed before diabetes (because I never needed to know so specifically).

This is the downside of SLGS—you’re required to take reductions under 90, while TR allows you to hold a dose until you drop below 50. I get the food issue though, and you have to do what’s best for Gen.

Gen is bouncing, definitely not (yet) used to those lovely greens he saw yesterday. Bounce days are days you can do what you want to do. The higher carb food doesn't help either.

You are missing the dose on the spreadsheet for this morning, I presume 0.5 units?

Sorry, not sure what you mean by "do what you want to do"?

I mixed the new low-carb dry food into his breakfast this morning, half and half, so hopefully that will help and he'll be transitioned to it fully in a couple of days. I'm trying to make the wet food more appealing ... we may need to try a few alternates.

And oops, yes, it was 0.5 yesterday morning and 0.5 again this morning. I'll backfill his data when we get home from the vet. He dipped back down into the pinks last night and is still there this morning.

Wendy meant if they are bouncing it's an opportunity to do self care (take a nap) or do something which doesn't require you to be tied to the house or your kitty (take a walk!) since no extra feedings or testing is required when they are bouncing up :bighug:
