12/2 - Gen - AMPS 328, PMPS >400

Well, we had an exciting night, apparently. Barely touched the blue, but that was still a big drop from PMPS (>400), and a very spiky graph in general.

I discovered when I got up that he had only eaten half his dinner (can of FFCP) - normally he'd go back and eat more during the night. That might partly explain the numbers. He was certainly acting hungry this morning! He ate a bit less than I would have expected, though he did enthusiastically take a few of the new Purebites freeze-dried tuna treats that just came in the mail.

He seems most interested in drinking water right now. Something else that could be a factor is that it's currently absurdly warm in my apartment (82F). We don't have access to the building thermostat, and this is a recurring problem. Building manager says repair is on the way but I would expect it to take some time (and if experience is any guide, it won't be a permanent fix, sigh). I've got some windows partly open (it's 33F outside) to try and help too.

I sprinkled some of the freeze dried tuna on his wet food to hopefully encourage his normal intermittent daytime eating habits, in case whatever put him off overnight (the heat? something else?) is a factor during the day.

Please buddy, no scuba diving while I'm at work. please?

A couple other things you can try with the wet food--
  • Freeze little chunks of wet food into 'catsicles' so they thaw during the next couple hours and stay fresher
  • Similarly, stick an ice cube or two into the wet food. Keeps it cooler/fresher, adds moisture
  • Mix in a little broth--makes it more appetizing and adds moisture. Esse likes this one because it has that 'gravy' texture he likes but you can also DIY it or use any pet broth or human broth that doesn't have onions/garlic/added salt
My college dorm had an HVAC system like that where once the heat was on, it was ON and the first few weeks of winter were super hot. So I sympathize. Don't miss those days. I can't sleep when it's too warm!

Ooh, thank you. I would not have thought of freezing parts of the food, or of ice. Gen usually is happy to nibble on it all day anyway, and last night I think it's possible he just decided to stay in my room all night (the coolest part of the apartment because I never close my window all the way - I'm a cold sleeper and even when the temperature is where it's "supposed" to be, 72F is a little warm for me at night). I woke up a few times, and he was always in the bed with me when I did.

Still, keeping it fresher could only help, especially when the apartment is like this. Appreciate the broth recommendation, too!

I remember reading somewhere in the transition from dry to wet that it's OK to leave the wet food out for them. I know some cats are picky and will only eat fresh food. Mine, however, are not. Monster will eat anything, lol.

It looks like Gen is trying to come down to lower numbers! You're doing a great job with him!

I'm starting to think Monster's mum has it right, and that they get together and plot these things amongst each other. Mine's currently not wanting to barely eat either. And now finally back to greens! Cats.๐Ÿ™„ Fine surfing!
Oh they totally conspire together.
Also the full moon is approaching. I find it affects our babies also. Whether it's their eating habits or their numbers so also watch out for that.

In other fun, I'm pretty sure this Libre sensor is just about kaput. It was over an hour of no data this time. (I wish I could restart Gen's phone remotely!)

What is this goofball even doing. It's not a new spot, but I've never found him snoozing up there before! (I wonder if it's the stupid temperature in here? Or maybe he's trying to dodge surveillance, since the phone with the Libre app was in the living room ...)

Well, he can stay up there if he really wants. Goodnight, all!
