12/1 Jude | AMPS 312; +2.5 369; +11 304; PMPS 313; +3 133

Very curious indeed especially since he's been such a steady boy. Def too early for the vial to have lost it's potency since you started a new one just over a month ago. Really don't know what to tell you but hoping you can get some answers soon.
Have a good amd calm Meownday Mary and furry gang

Poor Jude. Poor YOU! Is the infection gone? Is he symptomatic of fic or the UTI?
Jude rarely shows symptoms of his FIC flares or his UTIs. One symptom, though, is his bg goes up when he has either. Occasionally, he will urinate outside the box, which he did when he had a flare back in Oct. Each time this happens, I have to take him in for a cysto + culture/sensitivity to determine what we are dealing with. In the past, he has had UTIs, that we treated with abs but more recently, the c/s did not detect bacteria. He had a cysto + c/s about two weeks ago (negative), but in the time between the test and waiting for the results, the doctor put him on Clavamox because he suspected infection and wanted to get on top of it. Jude has taken Clavamox several times in the past with only the symptom of diarrhea, but this time, Jude stopped eating and we figured out he was nauseous from the ab, so I stopped it just short of a week. When the ab made him stop eating the doctor put him on Ondansetron, which helped quite a bit to get his appetite back. By that time, we had received the results from the c/s and they were negative. Last week, the doctor did full blood chemistries to look at Jude's liver, kidneys, and pancreas: all good.

I'm not sure if he is still in a flare or if he is just bouncing from going so low or what. It's maddening.

@Karolina & Nestle, I went ahead a purchased a new vial to ensure it isn't the insulin.

It sounds like his system might be pretty shaken up from those combined factors, but you know that already. And I imagine it's happened before, if these numbers stand out to you as unusual.

I hope he comes down nice and gently soon.

Sweet Jude, what is going on? Sending vines his way that whatever this is resolves quickly, Mary πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ€—

Is see you have "Dental" on Judes sheet in a couple days, maybe there is some inflammation in there that is causing the rise in numbers? I do hope he settles soon; I know it's concerning for him to be up and down so much.

Thanks, Kat. He does have some inflammation--mild stomatitis, they call it. He had a dental back in February, but the doctor says he needs another one. I don't think the inflammation is so severe to be causing problems with his numbers, but who knows.

I was reading about FIC flares and the comment that they are strongly seasonal and worse in winter for many cats. I’ve also wondered if the decline in household humidity from our gas heat now running in full force (but tapering upward over past 2 months) could be affecting insulin absorption or strength, therefore driving up insulin dose requirement.

That's interesting πŸ€” Since stress/anxiety is often seen as the driver of FIC, I wonder how seasonal changes/winter would factor into that? I'll have to give that some thought.

Have you considered a humidifier to test out your sort-of-theory?

I gave Jude a dose of Ondansetron at 9:25 p.m., and his bg @ +3 is down to 133 45 minutes later. Could be coincidental, or could it be that he's been nauseated??? Ugh. So frustrating not knowing. I'll continue with Ond every 8-12 as prescribed and see what happens. I'm super glad we're back at the beach.

Last winter I had 3 large units running in our house and we were pouring 6+ gallons a day into them and even that barely kept humidity in 30s. We installed a new AC and furnace this past Summer and had a humidifier added, so our downstairs is managed automatically and stays at around 45%. But upstairs is still a challenge. Have one unit running, about 2 gallons a day. The room where Minner spends alot of time is running around 35%. It’s really hard to combat the dry gas heat and get back into 40s or higher w/o embedded unit. I’m trying!

I know my skin is more dry so hers must be too. It could also explain why I see her drinking a bit more from water bowl now and then. Plus I think I notice a slight difference in her skin elasticity after lifting to tent / roll. Doesn’t quite return as quickly after releasing tent. Who knows, I’m constantly wondering.
