I'm getting so depressed with Ember's numbers. We've only come down into the 200s once in the last week and a half that I've seen. Maybe the insulin isn't really working? Maybe I should go get a new bottle? I was expecting to see better and better numbers as we raised the dose, but apparently not. Why can't I just force things to happen the way I want them to!? 😜 lol

Hi Elaine, are you keeping the Lantus in the refrigerator? If so it should still be good. You just began the bottle this month, correct?
The Lantus should last for many months if stored correctly.
Ember probably just needs more insulin and as you move forward, you will increase to a better dose for her.
As you know with SLGS you hold a dose for a week and if her nadirs are still too high you increase by .25 units.

If she’s eating all wet food and you can test at preshots and at least one more test each cycle you could switch to TR (tight regulation) to try to see if you can increase her more frequently based on that protocol.
(If that’s something you’d like to consider).

Let us know what you think. And good luck with the increase you just gave!

I'm absolutely not qualified to give any dosing advice but I agree with Staci that if it's something you're up for, TR can help a lot to speed up the process.

We're definitely nowhere near good, consistent regulation, but we also found it really frustrating and like a waste of time to wait as long as SLGS required. TR is certainly more work and more nerve-wracking but it can make a big difference.

Hang in there... I feel your pain!

Thanks, Staci. Yes, I'm keeping it in the fridge and just got it in October. I thought it might have gone bad since her numbers used to drop during her cycle and now they're not really doing that anymore.
I've looked at TR and it's appealing since I'm impatient 😜 , but scary since on work days, I get home just after AM+10 and can't get any earlier testing done. I'll keep thinking about it. I want to do the right thing for Ember and I hate making decisions, so I've been staying in our holding pattern hoping she'd improve.
