Hi all,

Previous:
11/6 - Pookey - 1 year FD anniversary

We’re having a hard time with eating. He’s sniffing and turning away, throwing his tongue around when he does have some bites.

I’ve been able to get the calories in to this point using toppers. But he’s smartened up to the Fortiflora, just licks it off the top.

Feel like I’m running out of options and tricks. I got Odansetron pills earlier this week, and will have compounded liquid tomorrow or the next day. He didn’t like the pill pockets or bacon wrap. So I haven’t gotten it into him yet.

This is all new for us, his whole life he’s always been food motivated.

Oh Tim , I'm sorry Pokey isn't eating great for you. Good luck with the liquid Odansetron.
Have you tried Bonita Flakes or
parmesan cheese sprinkled on his food ?
Thanks Diane, no, I haven’t tried those yet thank you! Will add them to my arsenal today.

I was able to hide the Odansetron pill in a greenie in his meal this morning, so we’ll see if that helps.

Thanks for checking in on us :bighug:

Oh no Tim. I’m sorry to hear about this eating issue 😢

His symptoms definitely sound like nausea.

Are you able to syringe feed if necessary? Do you have syringes in the house?

Have you read the sticky here?
Suggestions on How to Stimulate Kitty's Appetite

When did this start? His poops ok? (Hoping it’s not pancreatitis) 🙏

Keep us posted and sending lots of vibes your way feel better sweet Pookey 💖

Thanks Staci! Yes I have the syringes. I got some small ones in the mail today to syringe the Odansetron if I need to. Poops are good.

My suspicion is nausea too with his kidneys getting worse. I guess that’s pretty common.

What else did Ivy have symptom-wise with p-itis?

You’ve read the p-titis primer?

Ivy had gone to the vet the day before and the next day she suddenly started having very loose poops which got worse as the day went on.

Then the next day she didn’t want to eat and I started having to syringe feed her and she was meat loafing in a corner with her body facing the corner and I just knew she wasn’t feeling well.
I had never been down that road before, but I could just see from her demeanor that something was up and it wasn’t good.

Frankly, I think something about the vet’s office lab draw visit set her off.

They do say that it’s not unusual for that kind of situation to set off a pancreatic flare and I really think that’s what happened.

So it was the loose poops that started the whole thing spiraling.
I did have Cerenia at home and I gave a dose of that (she puked that up) and ultimately I took her to the ER over the weekend and they gave her some fluids and a Cerenia shot
So now I make sure to keep Cerenia and Mirataz in the house at all times.

I also keep ondansetron at home, I had tried it at that time but don’t think I it helped. I may not have gotten just the right dose in her though and was concerned about serotonin in syndrome from all the meds. 😭

Ahh that’s right. I forgot about the loose poops. I’ll keep an eye out for that. It sounds like you were able to tell she wasn’t feeling well too, which is sad, but at least you could visually see it. Visually Pookey seems ok, and no insulin is nice right now, so I’m not totally hitting the panic button yet.

Yep I’ve got food ones too, they’re a little big for the meds though I think.

Oh Tim, I’m sorry Pookie is not eating well. Always a concern 🙁 Will he let you look in his mouth? I know he had a dental not that long ago but when you mentioned him throwing his tongue around it makes me wonder if there is something in there bothering him.

Thank you, Kat. That’s an interesting thought. Could be. It’s always tough, I’ve had luck getting photos of him yawning. That might be easier.

Right, with the no insulin you have more wiggle room, it’s not as dire since you don’t have to give insulin without food 🙏

But, we don’t want him not eating. Still must be vigilant there, I know you are 🥰

Very glad he’s not “acting” sick, or meatloafing, etc 💖
