I'm so tired. I don't know where to start.

All the GI stuff that I've already talked about is still going on. The last day that I gave him Proviable Forte was Friday, when I stopped that since it didn't seem to be doing anything anyway.

Every day he has periods where he seems like he doesn't feel well and periods where he feels good enough to play and seems like his old self. He's gassy a lot of the time, whether he seems to feel well or not.

Today he's been eating well (Mirataz) but has seemed a little tired. Still very cuddly, not isolating or anything. While he was cuddling on my desk like he often does, he leaked... Something. When he stood up I realized there was a wet spot under his back end, and his tail and back thighs were wet. It didn't smell like much and was clear, so I'd imagine urine rather than diarrhea or an anal gland. He went pee in his box shortly after and also had more half-diarrhea. Was playing a little after and ate his dinner.

I'm so overwhelmed and I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm afraid to sit anywhere because he wants to cuddle with me of course but various bodily fluids keep getting everywhere. I've started and stopped supplements. He'll only eat one food so I can't really know if the food is a problem in itself.

I called the vet but she was unconcerned unless it happens again. 😩 I'm sure the emergency vet would say the same thing (and then hold him overnight for a urine test for $4000). I feel like it must somehow be related. He has never had this problem, ever. His numbers are not especially high. How likely is it that it's just a coincidence that it happens shortly after this other type of incontinence has started? And why must this stuff only ever happen at night, on weekends or near holidays?

I'm literally just sitting here in the middle of my living room on a folding chair typing this and not knowing WTF to do anymore.

Oh, no! Is he continually leaking? Or was this a one-time issue? Poor Xander! I’m so sorry, Brianna. (Feel free to join me in my life motto: it’s always something 😩 UGH!) I hope someone here can offer you some wisdom and advice.

Is it ibd related? I have 2 eating meats I have to cook and add EZ Complete and the broth it cooks in
Nico is 1, the other has severe ibd and can't eat any manufactured foods. Far another we found that we took in, and for about 8yrs we tried to find the food to help his upset belly and what I referred to as puddle poop. Raw rabbit was the only thing to eventually fix him.
As for the leaking, have a vet check that out and just keep such towels for when he wants to lay on you. Sorry you're going through so much at once.

Hi Brianna,
I'm sorry you're dealing with this and that Xander is not doing 100%. Really sorry about the leakage situation. I have no experience in this area so I really don't know what to say. Hopefully someone here has some suggestions or knowledge.

I'm sending lots and lots healing vines your way.

Please keep us posted. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. But it's good that he's still active and playful at times and eats his food.

Sending lots of hugs your way and hoping for a calm night for you amd Xander

oh Brianna, I’m sorry you’re having another weird thing πŸ«‚
I don’t know what that could be.
Sweet Xander, he deserves to feel so much better already πŸ₯°
I hope someone has some ideas or the vet has some suggestions for you.
I know you’re working so hard to help him feel better all the time.
Sending you both lots of love and prayers for some relief πŸ«‚πŸ«‚πŸ«‚πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

Have you tried giving him Slippery Elm bark? You can make a syrup from it. A lot of cats find this great for GI upsets, especially when other things are too harsh, from my experience. It's gentle.

The thing about Mirataz, is that it's great, but giving it to a cat who has a sore tummy or nausea: can you imagine intentionally making somebody with that kind of problem hungry as well?

Uh, I’m so sorry Brianna πŸ€— From cute cuddles to messy leaking… the two should not go together! And it must be so tough for Xander. I’m sure all he wants is comfort, which is why he wants to be with you, and he can’t control what happens next.

I have very little experience here too, except to suggest what Lara has mentioned - the Slipper Elm Bark. It’s continued to be helpful for Binx (seemingly) and at the minute I’m just mixing it in with water and wet food.

Do they make kitty diapers? Or can you use baby ones? Not as a permanent solution, but until you can figure out what’s happening. I doubt Xander will like it, I remember all the wraps you had to test for his Libre.

Sending healing vines for now πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

You can get small dog ones. I see Petsmart has washable ones. Or get the newborn ones and put a tail hole in it, depending on size of cat. The shelter I was at had a tiny Burmese kitty that had been in accident, possible car run over tail which was crushed? He was just found on a trail so not sure, but he couldn't control his business. He did get some kitty chiro that helped somewhat.

For his GI system, is Xander getting an prebiotic? Psyllium husk fibre is something I've seen recommended.

Reading back your last post (link above didn't work), kitties with IBD or small cell lymphoma often have low B12. Low B12 means that s. boulardii won't work. Next blood work, maybe add a B12 test onto the list, he may need supplementation.

No, it was one incident like this (so far). I'm not including the time he farted a little on me or when he's had stuff on his tail, since this seemed to just be urine.

Thanks, Mary. 😞

The vet is pretty sure he has IBD, but he's never in his entire life been like this before. His issue has always been vomiting and that got a lot better since we switched to Weruva. It's only been since those stupid antibiotics that the rest of his GI system has been so awful.

I'm planning to try switching him back to his normal food, and then a novel protein (if I can) if that doesn't work, and then raw if that doesn't work either.

The vet wasn't at all concerned about the leaking and just wants to know if it happens again. I have towels over trash bags covering everything including myself, just running out of laundry and towels and sheets. 😞 Thank you for stopping by!

He does! It's been a month of this crap (no pun intended) and before that it was like a whole month to heal from his dental. It never ends.

Thanks, Staci. πŸ˜žπŸ«‚πŸ’”

Not yet. I'm afraid to add too many things at once. It's on my list of "maybe try that" though. I am also giving him Ondansetron for the nausea, so there's that.

Oh of course, he has no idea why I'm hesitant. I'm just running out of clothes and towels and sheets and honestly tired of being covered in diarrhea. 😞 We do get cuddle time.

Still have the SEB on my list, just afraid to try too many things at once.

I considered the diapers but I decided it would probably cause more problems than it would solve. But who knows, maybe it'll end up coming to that.

Thanks, Briana. 😞

He was getting Proviable Forte right after we stopped the antibiotic and then I tried the S. Boulardii. Other than that, no. But he's never been like this before that stupid antibiotic either.

Not sure why I'm having so much trouble linking lately, but it's fixed now, sorry. I'll ask them to add that to the list for when we go to the vet next. Thanks, Wendy. 😞

All totally fair - the number of variables that have changed in such a short period of time must be overwhelming πŸ˜”
