The glucose is dropping sharply on Lantus

Hello everyone!
We switched from Prozinc to Lantus and saw on the Holter monitor that cat glucose levels are dropping quite sharply. The dose in the screenshot is 0.5.
Has anyone else experienced something similar and how can it be avoided? We usually feed the cat every two hours, i.e., at 10, 12, and 14 until the nadir. He eats low carb wet food.
Thank you!

Hi Elena,

Welcome to the Lantus forum. One of the more experienced helpers will be by soon to answer your questions.

In the meantime, do you have a spreadsheet set up for Hastings? If not, it will be helpful if you set up a spreadsheet and complete your signature. Here is the sticky that gives directions in doing both. Once the spreadsheet is set up, you'll link it in your signature. Please let us know if you have any difficulty with this, and we'll be glad to help.

Also, here is the link to your previous post: Is Prozink not working for 12 hours?. When you post, it's helpful to always include the previous post you made so that helpers can quickly look back at what has transpired with you and Hastings.

Hang tight, and I'm sure someone will answer your questions soon.

Just to confirm - you are using U100 insulin syringes with Lantus? You definitely don't want to use U40 syringes with Lantus 🫣 If you have leftover U40 syringes from when your cat was on ProZinc, discard them into a Sharps container or offer them to another cat owner. There's a Supply Closet forum to post items or you can look for someone locally. Your vet may know of another client who can use the U40 syringes.

When did you start Lantus?

What brand is your blood sugar monitor? I see the Holter monitor measures heart rhythm.

It'd be really helpful for us to see your blood sugar data in a spreadsheet data, so we can see when he dropped compared to when he got insulin. Have you been giving 0.5 units since you started Lantus?

Not sure about holter monitors either, but FWIW, I'm about 98% positive the UI from the screenshot is a Libre.

Yes, for sure we are using the U-100 syringes. 🙂
We started the Lantus treatment 3 days ago, on Saturday.

We are using Freestyle Libre 3.
We started with 0.75 UI, but reduced the dose to 0,5 UI, because the drop in glucose was quite significant, down to about 60.
