We should watch closely. She’s been at this dose for quite some time. Do you feed her consistently every day and every cycle?
What are we watching for? I'm still sooo clueless! She has a very consistent schedule, I think. She gets 1 patty (ice cube size) at amps, if she's under 100 I check and give her half a patty at +2. Then she gets a 1/2 patty at +4, a full patty at +8. If she's above 100, I wait until +3 or +4 and give her the full patty. It allows her to drop down a bit before I feed her again. I felt like I was keeping her up with food at +2. PMPS is 1 patty and then at +2 she gets 1.5 patties to keep her from yelling at 4 a.m. Of course if she's dropping I keep checking and she gets freeze dried chicken treats. It seems to be working pretty well.......of course she is Kahlua!

Is there any way to drop the +8 feeding? Feeding after nadir often shortens insulin duration. Perhaps you could just give her a small zero carb treat of freeze dried chicken breast? I usually kept some freshly cooked chicken breast around to give Gracie she was hungry after nadir.

I also wonder if you can get a few days of a.m. cycle +10 BGs so we can see if she’s coming up and then getting a second dip or what she’s doing at the end of the cycle.

I could try feeding her more at +4....that's lunch time. At night I feed her a bit more at +2 to hold her until morning. She is generally very hungry though. I'll try it! I can try the +10, but that's 6 a.m.ish and I can't go to bed until 11:30 p.m. due to the dog's med schedule. I will give it a try though!

I don’t mean getting a +10 during the p.m. cycle which ends with AMPS. I mean getting the +10 two hours before PMPS. There’s no need to be up early to get it before AMPS.

I had an auto feeder I set up to give Gracie a snack at +9 in the pm cycle. Again…super LC. Possible to do that? It’s a long time between +2 and AMPS. Even my nondiabetic cats get fed a late night snack. It’s better for cats as they produce a lot of tummy acid if they get too hungry.

Oh goodness! I'm so focused on my sleep I just assumed it was in danger! 6 p.m. is totally doable!

I don't have an autofeeder, but I will look for one. I do give her a big fat chicken treat at 7 a.m., which is about +11.

Just remember you don’t want to influence her duration. It looks like sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t but I’m hoping the +10 might give us some clues.

I’m all for sleeping as much as you can when you have a diabetic cat. 😊

Okay! I'll start today. The feeder won't be here until tomorrow, but I'll get up and feed her. If PMPS is at 8 p.m., when should I give her a snack? I'm thinking half a patty.....like 16 calories.

I would try to stay consistent with feeding a.m. and p.m. as much as you can. Hopefully the auto-feeder will help as you feed her at +4 in the a.m., it would be good to feed her at the same in the p.m. Do you feed her raw? If so, that is likely going to be difficult to leave her with food at p.m. +4. There’s no way to keep it as cold as it needs to be (I also feed raw).

I don’t want to mess with your feeding schedule too much so do what you think is best & easiest for you at night but I’d just try, both cycles, to keep her snacks after nadir to a minimum that keeps her from being hungry and is super LC…as in 0.

I do feed raw. Whenever I've left food out for her, I leave it frozen. That way it defrosts by the time she needs it. I'll start messing around when it comes and see what happens.

Just let me know so I can check back in and see what her +10 tests looks like along with consistent feeding. Just curious if we can get her in more green....one way or the other. ;)

I started testing at +10 today. She's having a little bounce from her 50's yesterday!

Let’s see where she goes with this. Would it be a pain to put in the Remarks anything you feed her after nadir? Just the + number & carbs. So if you give her a snack at +8 you could put “+8 0 carb snack” for example.

And really…..if you are ok with where she’s at, you don’t have to do anything. I was just wondering if we could nudge her to get more green. But I don’t want to create more work for you if you are fine with her BGs which are actually very good.

It's not a big deal to add that in. I just have to remember! I figured I'd try it for a bit and see what happens. I think I am going to give her a meal at +6......maybe to ease her into it. She gets soooo hungry in there. I think 12:30-8:30 is a long time. I did rework the amount she gets so that her calories are about the same. She's a saggy, baggy girl!

I kind of love her usual schedule......but I'm always up for keeping her even healthier! Thank you so much for the suggestions!

You’re welcome. I’m gone most of tomorrow but I’ll look in tomorrow night.
