Well folks, much like Niko’s liver, I dramatically over reacted by bringing him back up to 2.00. He flirted with the 50s yesterday and had a little bounce last night but is back to the blues this AMPS. I anticipate we will be bringing him right back down to 1.75, potentially even tonight if he touches below 50 today. My partner is watching him to see if it’s an active cycle today as I’m at work.
also, unrelated but I’m struggling advocating for my family senior kitty, Oscar. He is 15 years old and lives with my parents (he was bonded to me when I lived with them, he was there throughout high school with me, my first soul kitty). He recently started having very bad seizures (maybe every month since this year), to the point where he can’t move his legs and loses bowel control. Sometimes they last hours.
He is not fond of vets so my parents have not taken him for over a decade. He has never had any problems until now. I am unfortunately thinking it may be time to bring him to the rainbow bridge (he has had bad weight loss and now with these seizures I suspect CKD). My parents are refusing to even consider that as a possibility, but he’s a spicy cat and even if we get him on medication, I suspect it might be hard for them to maintain a good schedule for him. He also would not do well to be transported to surgery or a neurologist.
I’m trying to schedule a home visit from the vet to do a potential examination. Maybe if they hear from the vet about his quality of life, they might be more inclined.
anyone else had experienced advocating for their senior kitties like this? He’s technically no longer my cat, which makes it hard that I can’t make those decisions.
