4/3 Niko AMPS 410

Holy moly Niko! He could have gone lower last night, or bouncing from the lime yesterday day? Curious to see a mid-cycle test today, that red seems out of place…

Yeah, not going to lie I'm a bit disappointed! I am hoping he gets back to cruising blue/greens and this is just a weird over-reaction from the lime...

Also, I don't know if this is related but he is back to licking a hot spot by his bum. I checked ketones, worrying it was a UTI but they're at 0.4.

He used to have hot spots before the steroids that then led to his diabetes. We thought it was food related but clearly he's having another inflammation if it just returned after 6 months of being gone.

Have any of you folks had success with Atopica or other allergy meds?

I give Mocha Zyrtec for EGC and dermatitis. It has helped. Vet is back and forth on the cause. I think environmental but possibly protein related too.

I have heard about Zyrtec recently. @Tim & Pookey your little guy was doing well on it, right? I think I remember you dissolved it in water to get him to take it?

I reached out to my vet to ask about it, hopefully she's on board.

Thanks!

Yes, for itching/over grooming. 1/2 of a Zyrtec tablet daily crushed up, dissolved in water, then into the food. Make sure it’s plain Zyrtec not Zyrtec-D. Not sure the cause either…

I put the Zyrtec in a small ball of wet food and she doesn’t notice it in the bowl.

Thanks both! I feel a bit like a bad mom because I've been leash training Niko and taking him outside more but it didn't click with me that he might get worse allergies (we have been thinking it was food related this whole time, we did a diet change during winter time and he didn't have any issues but now I realize it was seasonal. Plus the diabetes and steroids stuff at the same time just made it more confusing).

Niko tends to overgroom certain spots (notably, near his bum and legs, sometimes his chest) in the warmer months. Hopefully the Zyrtec addresses and alleviates some of the inflammation he feels there.
