Time to increase dose?

Hi! First time posting in this section of the Forum, have had several threads in the main forum though.

I have had Mia on Lantus since end of October now after switching from her initial insulin Caninsulin.

She was doing great for several weeks with her dose of 0.1u with blue and green numbers all over the place. She did have a couple of drops into lime greens, but after trying to decrease the dose to a drop dose a couple of times we always went back into the 0.1u dose which she is also getting now.

Lately, now consistently for the past 5 days, she has been having higher preshot numbers, both yellows and even pinks. During her AM cycle she has dropped down into blues even with a pink preshot number, but during her PM cycle she has for several days had her BG increase when doing both +2, +4 and +6 checks. Yesterday she had her first "normal" PM cycle where her numbers actually dropped after giving her dose.

Then this morning she has had a strange cycle instead, where she went up on +2, then lower than preshot on +4 and already up over the preshot number at +6.

She is eating fine, playful, purring and does not generally seem to be anything going on with her. When these higher preshot numbers started, she did have a round of vomiting within 15 minutes after getting her pre-insulin meal in the evening. Our other cat also vomited, so we assume the food was bad. They both ate like normal around 30 minutes later and have not had any issues after that.

Right now I have several questions. The first being, is it time to increase her dose? And to what dose should i increase to? Another question is if anyone has an idea to why her PM cycles have had her BG numbers increase after insulin?
Final question, should I take her to the vet to see if there is anything else going on? Seeing she was in blues and greens for so long and suddenly is in yellows and even pink numbers.

Here’s your last lust on main fir continuity. https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...-numbers-and-dosing-help.296189/#post-3229254

If the BG drops under 50 you need to decrease. I’d get a second test to make sure it’s not a bad strip though. I don’t think it was. Might have even gone lower so always test again 29-30 minutes later to make sure on the way up. I think you might be seeing some bouncing from the lower BG. Flat yellow often means the next cycle will be lower. I would see what happens tonight. Then ask for dosing advice in the morning if needed.

Hi @tiffmaxee ! Mia hasnt had low numbers for 5 days now. She dropped into lime green (2.7 / 49) on the 13th December. Is that the drop/lower BG you are talking about? Was thinking that's so long ago now that it shouldn't still be affecting her numbers

Some cats take up to 8 cycles to clear a bounce. I would increase in the morning unless you are surprised tonight or in the morning.

@tiffmaxee Oh ok, will increase in the morning then depending on her numbers. For now she is having a pretty flat pm cycle, preshot was 15.1, 15 at +2 and 12.6 at +4.

What dose should I increase to? I haven't increased with Lantus before or when using the 0.3 syringes. Would appreciate some advice on what dose to increase to and what that looks like on the syringe
