I overdosed my cat today :cool::cool:

I wonder if going back to the 2 units would have been the better choice.

I did feed him 12% at +2. I know he didn’t technically test at the magic 68, but I figured that was incoming anyway. Plus, this cat went from running around like a lunatic all morning to suddenly crashing and just sitting there—he seems to really feel anything under 4.5mmol.

Lots of testing incoming today lol.

I’m anticipating another bounce tonight.

You are right, he did not earn a reduction today when using the AT and following TR. Having said that, it takes some time to wrap your head around the Lantus "shoot low to stay low" when you've got a Prozinc brain that would not shoot that low. With experienced people using TR, you can shoot as low as 50. I never got that opportunity, but Neko did give me a couple AMPS of 51 to try out. :) And you only want to shoot those lows the first time, when you are around to monitor closely.

He was breaking a bounce overnight - not uncommon for the action to carry over to the start of the next cycle. Meaning that 70 was from the depot of the 2.75 units dose. Might want to put that 12% feed at +2 in the notes of the Remarks section of the SS, so you can look back later and see what it did.

Gotcha. Should I still have given him the full 2.75 this morning then? I was just thinking of some of the advice I was given in my last thread. I’m just hoping this cat’s preshots stabilize a bit because he’s given me so much anxiety today lol

The advice you got in your last thread was back when you started Lantus. We are now starting to get a better idea of what this dose can do, as the depot is getting established. Though the reduced doses aren't going to help the depot build.

You do have a choice to make in dose tonight. You could try 2.5 units and see if that's a good dose for him. It will likely cause less stress for you as you are learning how Emmett reacts to Lantus. And it's likely you could build the 2.5 unit depot without interruption of reduced doses. OR you could continue with 2.75 units and see if it is too much insulin. This will likely mean more monitoring as you are still figuring out Emmett on Lantus. Either path is OK at this point. And your ability to monitor the next few days should be a factor in the decision.

Okay, thank you. I’m usually in the office twice a week (this week will be Wednesday and Friday) and unable to test him then. My mom watches him, but she’s not great at testing him. Just not sure what the best course of action is if he ends up having another lower than usual preshot on days I have to be in the office.
