10/26 Willow AMPS 405, +2 274 - peed in the bed :(

Hi all!

I posted previously here about my newly diagnosed 15 y/o, Willow
https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...usual-response-to-lantus.295138/#post-3215873
Was very worried about her symptoms since starting on Lantus.
Trying to keep my Patience Pants on!!

I asked my vet to switch to ProZinc, which I received yesterday and planned on switching to today but decided to wait based on the past 24 hours. Don't want to put her little body through too much at once.
Yesterday she had a random drop to 140- her first blue number since being diagnosed. She seemed to be doing well yesterday, overall.

Cue to this morning- I wake up to her crying in the bed. Like, a lot of crying and just hunched down a bit. It was time to wake up anyway and get her test/feed/shoot routine done. When I turned on the light I noticed a couple of small pee spots on the bed. She has NEVER peed outside of the litter box.

AMPS was super high- 405.

I'm worried that she's unregulated and want to switch to the ProZinc to see if her other symptoms improve some- mostly her restlessness. She also had a collapse/seizure event on 10/16 which is mentioned in the previous post I linked at the top.

Is the peeing in the bed worth a trip to an emergency vet or urgent care?
Her bloodwork is on the SS and looked really good to the vet.
Ketones were negative at Dx but I have not been able to check ketones at home yet.

So far today she has been using the litter box and no more accidents. Drinking water, sleeping, and ate all of her breakfast before insulin.

Sending love to everyone <3

I don’t think I would rush to the ER given what you wrote at the end of your post. I’d take a wait and see approach since you can go to the ER at any time if needed. I started to ask if she could have a UTI but since all is normal right now maybe not.

You saw your first lower than usual bg in blue which is why the higher amps. She’s bouncing most likely as her body doesn’t know how to respond to a more normal bg. Bounces typically last 2-4 cycles, sometimes more, sometimes less.

When you switch to Prozinc, leave some space between the lantus bg and start of prozinc and don’t forget to add to your signature the start date of prozinc. I guess the switch will help determine if the adverse symptoms were caused by lantus or something else. Whatever the cause, which you might never know, I hope you never experience a seizure again. :bighug:

Thank you so much for your reply- definitely helped make me feel a bit more at ease about her bouncing. Hopefully the pee accident in the bed doesn't happen again and she keeps eating/drinking as normal.
What do you mean, when I switch to ProZinc leave space between the Lantus BG and start of ProZinc? Do you just mean on the SS? My vet told me to just switch and resume routine as normal. I haven't switched yet but will maybe go ahead and make the switch tomorrow when I can be home to monitor and make sure no weird symptoms happen with the switch.

Sorry I confused you. I meant on the spreadsheet to leave space.

@Ksweeney
Hi there when you do switch to Prozinc please note that in your signature and the date started and I your spreadsheet leave a blank line above the date you switch and type Prozinc Now and highlight it any color you want to. On the top of your spreadsheet where you have Lantus you can put after Lantus / Prozinc and the date started Oh and be sure you get the U-40 syringes with the half unit markings since we adjust the dose by 0.25 units at a time

You can get them here on Amazon
