Good evening,

we had a full red bouncing cycle today. Seems that is a reaction on the low cycle yesterday.

Thank you so much @Wendy&Neko and @tiffmaxee for mentioning the Zyrtec. I will research it while I wait for the results from the urine test and will mention it at my next vet visit. I think before we try steroids without having a diagnosis and messing up her bg even more, it is definitely worth to try.

I installed a new sensor today and hopefully I am successful to activate it tomorrow. I wasted another sensor because it stayed in the applicator. :( But I think I finally understood the mistake now. If she is turning around to see what I am doing, the area of the application is not perfectly rounded anymore. Even though I wanted to try to not let the skin tac dry out completely. Big mistake. I called the hotline and they send me another sensor. I wonder if they have a label which says "complete idiot". Think I earned it.

Thank you so much Colleen @SmallestSparrow to mention that the foxtails can travel by air. I searched my terrace yesterday for plants with foxtails and I couldn't find any. I was close to burning everything down but as I understood this doesn't help.

And thank you so much @Staci & Ivy for encouraging me to talk to the young vet. I think that is a good idea. She is sometimes a bit more open minded than her older collegue and doesn't pretend to know everything. Maybe the danger about being very experienced is to get a bit arrogant and not being open anymore. It's human but difficult to deal with.

I think this week I will hear about the urine. :nailbiting: Binie acts really fine. Hopefully that is a good sign.

Found a funny cartoon today. I'm sure many can relate. :)

I have to say not all seasoned vets are unwilling to try new ideas nor are all young ones more open. My vet is nearing retirement and has always been open and not big headed. I’m so worried as to what I will do when he retires. He’s down to two days a week. I do think getting a second or even third opinion is great. Here the exam prices are off the charts though so you need to get them from vets who are well thought of and still taking on new clients. Hard to find.

Zyrtec has helped Mocha’s dermatitis but the EGC has returned. I forgot to mention it’s given every 24 hours.

Good luck searching for answers.

Thank you so much Elise! You are perfectly right, one can not generalize that at all. I am just a bit frustrated with my vet at the moment, because the communication is so hard. But she is perfect with difficult to handle cats like Binie and we owe her a lot. I hope your vet decides to keep up his practice as long as you have cats. It's hard to search for someone new.

So half a 10 gram regular strength Zyrtec every 24 hours. Thank you!

Hi Heike, I’m so glad you had success with the sensor. Great work!!
And I think you’re not the only one they must have identified at the call center for the sensors. They must have my picture up as idiot also. So we’re both in good company;)

Now we get to hope that both of our urine samples come back clean and with no issues.

I think it’s a great idea to try the Zyrtec. There’s not much harm in trying. Is that something that you can get where you are?

I’m hopeful that maybe the young vet has some different perspective or ideas to add to your main vet. Maybe just a fresh look at Binie, she might have a different opinion.

By the way, I absolutely love the graphic you posted. That is so accurate. I can’t tell you how many times I have laid on the hard floor while Ivy lays in her comfy cushioned bed like a little princess:smuggrin:

Hope you both have a very calm night and Binie slides down very gently from her bounce :bighug::kiss::bighug:

Hi Staci,

oh my... the sensors are really nerve wrecking. On the other hand I would be lost without them. I think it is a toxic relationship. :)

And yes, I really hope the urine comes back clean. Ivys last test was just four weeks ago, isn't it? So I think chances are really good it is the same.

I did a bit research on Zyrtec tonight. Seems it helps some cats and others don't. But as it has not many side-effects, I think it is worth a try. I just wonder if I should wait for her blood test results first, because it puts strain on the kidneys and I don't know how her kidneys are doing yet. So I will definitely talk with the vet first, even though it is an over the counter drug in Germany. And also interesting to hear, what she thinks about Binies problems.

Hhhh... I also laughed about the graphic. Maybe people without cats don't understand. Before I had Binie I never thought I would lie in an akward position all night because Binie is sleeping on me and I don't want to disturb her. :)

I have another one for you! It's in German but I will translate under the picture.

The guy on the left says: "The earth is drowning in chaos! Why don't you do anything?"
God says: "But how? The cat is sleeping!" :cat:

Hope Ivy cooperates with her shot tonight and you have a calm and relaxed night in your bed! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sorry. Yes no sense in hurting your terrace, just check Binie over when she comes back inside. The fact that you found one on her (1) means you can keep her safe and (2) is worth mentioning to your vet. I read an article that said they can find ones that have burrowed under the skin with ultrasound. But that was on fairly recent ones.

Hi Colleen,

I already mentiond the foxtails talking to my vet and she said it might have been a foxtail but she didn't find anything. She told me they removed a lot so she thinks it is unlikely, there is still someting inside. I wonder if we ever find out....

I will definitely search her for foxtails in future. When I had the foxtail in my hand, I could feel these very sharp and thin needels. I can imagine they penetrate the skin so easily. Nasty stuff....

Hope you and your boys do a lot of napping today! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes very nasty seeds. The barbs on them prevent them from backing up so once though the skin they continue though anything (except bone) in its path: heart, lungs, bladder, brain etc. horrible. It’s a real threat (mostly to dogs) in California and I imagine other states except in the cities. Until this last home I’ve either lived in big cities or at the beach (or in other countries in big cities or the desert). They even sell mesh hoods in the local pet store to put over your dogs head but I’ve never seen one wearing one. I imagine they are mostly used for hunting

edit: this story about them talks about how to know if you’ve gotten the foxtail out (the tract closes) and has pictures of what foxtail wounds look like although it’s not very specific. Lots of things look like it. Hopefully it’s allergies or something else

My vet told me 1/4 to 1/2 once a day. Really helped Methos’ asthma before his tumor provided free steroids

I do note that in humans it can cause constipation so watch just in case (it blocks histamine receptors including those in the human gut…again, not a vet)

Thank you. They slept a lot, I got two 20-minute naps (I decided I was more hungry than sleepy so got up to cook lunch)

in hope Binie improves and gives you beautiful blues and greens soon.

Wishing good numbers and sweet dreams for you both.

Hi Colleen,

I love the cartoon. :) One can never have enough kittys, right?

Thank you for the information about the foxtails. Yes, they are really nasty.... :( So interesting Methos also used Zyrtec! That is really encouraging to give it a try.

Happy you had a proper lunch yesterday!

So happy, Methos ketones went further down!

Hope you have a beautiful day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, yes I’m so relieved! Because the ketones were finally better, I tried a tiny bit less than 3U to see if the numbers would be less erratic …nope, it seems my vet is once again correct and he wants to be a 3U kitty. I’ll just have to figure out what I’m supposed to do when he’s below 150–should I give a full dose and just lots of extra food? Because anything less than a full dose and it’s back to high ketones.
