A nice lower start today - we'll see how the rest of the morning goes. It's vet day, and it's vet day with claw trim trim and blood draw, so we got a good sized dose of gabapentin, and that usually makes her nauseous (so far so good today on that not happening [knock on wood]) and it usually can make her trend lower with her numbers. Especially since I got pretty much the whole dose in. And she's not even as cranky with me as she usually is on gabapentin day. But I'll be home all day today to keep an eye on her.

Ceiling cat doesn't seem to like to eat in the first half of the day, but rather eats a lot more late afternoon into evening. Which is sort of the schedule he had eating in my office, since people were more likely to be around in the morning/early afternoon. There's a linen closet with a door in the bathroom he's in, and he's determined to get into said room. He is able to stick his paw under and grab at things and try to force the door open (it's latched, that's a no go bud). He also apparently got really mad and knocked a package of daytime cold meds onto the floor, then destroyed the box. None of the pills or pills slots are punctured, so I'm 99% sure he didn't get into the actual meds.

Hope folks are having a good Monday.

Very nice cycle so far for Kit cat. Has she noticed anything about CC (Ceiling Cat)?
Sounds like he's a little rambunctious one! :p
But all that commotion - he must be feeling pretty comfortable around.
Hope all goes well with him (vet's coming today?) :bighug::bighug:

She will sometimes glance over at the bathroom door, but otherwise, nothing really. She doesn't even seem stressed about it, which is totally unexpected.
He does the saddest little mews, like he's lonely, but he doesn't want us to be in there really. He mostly sits on the edge of the bathtub. I know he goes elsewhere (stuff pulled under the linen closet door, the torn up box from the counter, he poos and pees in the litterbox, his food is in the tub and he eats it later in the day). He just magically pops back up on the side of tub anytime the door starts to open.
Yep, vet visit. I don't know how busy she is today, but I'm hoping she'll be able to peek in on him. He doesn't seem to have fleas - he's not itchy or anything. And no worms (I genuinely don't know if that's strictly a younger kitten thing). He's just a scared young cat. Although maybe she'll be magical and be able to figure out sex? I know I've touched him once while he was still in the carrier, but not since, as it seems to terrify him if I come close.

Hi all - Kit's portion of the vet day was successful. She was growly, and nipped at me once (no actual bite), but we also had to switch to the other back lag to do a blood draw, so I get it. She was pretty annoyed. We should hear in a couple of days how her blood work is. And even though she was grumpy while the blood draw and claw trim were happening, within 5 minutes she fine, and just hanging out on papers in the living room. And she let me get the vet wrap off her legs pretty easily, which is a first. Girl is almost mellow. And like, not just drugged mellow, like she's just been mellow lately. Feisty, but just content? Weird. Hard to describe.

Vet wasn't able to do much a check on ceiling cat. She tried to coax him with some churu, he freaked out (continued to?). He's pretty scared most of the time - he doesn't want to be alone, but also is scared of us. So it's rough for him. She said he's more scared than she's seen a cat be in awhile, although from the brief glance she had, he looks okay. He started to do a yowl after we left the bathroom, and I thought she was gonna cry from how scared he sounded (although he also has a meow that just sounds scared? Like that's how he meowed the whole time he was in the ceiling, even when he had a way down and access to food and water and a litterbox whenever he wanted). She suggested I used 1 of Kit's gabapentin pills and give him a quarter in food, and see if he would eat it. I'm about to go check in a few minutes to see if he has.

He's pretty scared, and I'm super hesitant to hand him over to students. I'm giving it a few more days, and then I might give him to the local humane society. They are no kill, and specifically state that animals are never euthanized for space, time, or convenience. Things are already super busy and crazy for me, and I just think they may be better suited for a cat that is terrified and maybe a bit feral. And while the student taking it has an ESA, I'm pretty sure a cat that they can't even touch, because so far no one has been able to, won't count. So, that's where we are. I'm sad, and I hope he starts to feel less scared. But I also know there are people more qualified to handle it (although I also hate overloading an already overloaded system, and plan on donating food/money as able).

Hi Alicia I'm glad the vet visit went well.
I'm also sad that ceiling kitty won't let you near him. Poor baby. You're doing the best you can with him.
Like you said there are more people that are more qualified to handle him at the humane society.

Thanks for the update on the CC kitty. Poor thing, he's just not used to being handled.
Or worse, he may have had a bad experience in the past. With time, though, he'll calm down.
You've saved its life and given it the chance to start a new life. That's more than anyone can ask you to do!

Hi Alicia. I’m late to the party reading about your ceiling cat. It reminded me of my Tiger. He was born in our yard and orphaned at 8 weeks. I fed him outdoors for 4 years. It took me that long to catch him! When outside, I would put his food down and sit in a chair near it. He would hastily eat, fearful the whole time. Gradually I moved the chair closer and then would touch him while he ate and gradually moved to petting him after time. Finally getting to where he had to pay petting to get his food. I’ve never seen such a scared kitty….after catching him I had him fixed and we put him in a spare bedroom. For months everytime I entered the room, he went under the bed. I put treats at the edge of the bed and sit in a chair away from them. Gradually he would crawl to the edge and eat them. Later I layed on my belly and gave him the treats under the bed. It took ages for him to gain trust but it was all worth it, as I have the most loving cat on earth now. He also had that pitiful sound and still does, it was just him, lol.

just give him time and let him adjust in his own time. It will take a long time maybe, but not a lot of work on your part, just patience. I would think you might be better for him than the humane society. The cute and cuddley are adopted and the shy ones often get overlooked. He may never get that special person to have the patience to let him have the time to feel secure and safe. If you can , give it a while….i totally understand if you can’t and have to give him up. Only you know your limits but think about it.
