? Theodore - 10/10 - pulsating jugular vein

Hi everyone,

I first noticed Theodore’s pulsating jugular vein in early September. We did bloodwork, and while nothing majorly concerning came up, his anemia had actually improved. I was almost certain it was hyperthyroidism, but after running TSH, T4, and free T4 tests, all came back negative. We just received the results today.

He has a stage 2/3 heart murmur and his blood pressure is at 165, but I still can’t figure out what’s causing the pulsating vein. Has anyone else experienced this with their cats?

Otherwise, he seems okay, though we’ve had a rough week. He had a megacolon obstruction(I gave him DM which has Powdered Cellulose and ALWAYS causes me issues but he wasn't eating and that was the best option I had that he would go for) last week and a UTI on Tuesday, probably due to the enemas causing some leaking and cystitis. I’m worried about the combination of the pulsating vein, his blood pressure, and his weight loss. He should weigh around 15-16 lbs, but he’s down to 11.13 lbs now.

I'm really at a loss because his bloodwork was improving, but he’s been picky with his food lately, which hasn’t helped his diet. Has anyone else dealt with something similar

Thank you! I got a sample this week and he won’t touch it but I ended up getting tiki cat which he seems to eat. I’m wondering if it was a mix of the issues this week. He runs away even up the stairs when I take out medicine to syringe him. On the positive note I know his neuropathy has improved

he is seeing a cardiologist on the 22nd

Hi Nadine if you are using the Alpha Trak can you please add that to your signature.
On your spreadsheet where it asks what meter you are using what does FSL mean are you talking about Tiki Cat kibble

If he's not eating the Dr Esleys you can delete it from your signature

Will do, I am not using alpha track, just freestyle lite
@NadineTheodore
Nadine if you are using the Freestyle Lite Meter human meter than you have to put a blank line above the date you started using it because on your spreadsheet you have Alpha Trak
The last two color codes up top on your spreadsheet needs to be changed to reflect a human meter
Looks like you switched back to the Freestyle Lite on 9-11-24 as noted in the remarks section
So can you put a line above that date like you did for the Alpha Trak and highlight it so members know
@NadineTheodore

The dark green should be
50 - 99
And the lime green should be
BG<50

Yes, that is the one I am leaving him although he is extremely picky these days. Not sure if it's the antibiotics
Just so you know the Tiki Cat kibble
I looked on the Chewy site and they answered the question about carbs
What is the carb % of this food?
Answer by • Jul 12, 2024
This recipe has a carbohydrate content of 25.34% on an as-fed basis and 27.12% on a dry-matter basis.

So please delete the Dr Esleys and put Tiki Cat Kibble
@NadineTheodore

Good luck with the cardiologist visit :cat:

Oh dear, I thought it was less. I did the calculator and I forget but I got somewhere between 15-18% depending on which. I know that's a little high but I figured I'd manage given DM is I believe 18 % anyway

@NadineTheodore
Please don't forget to do this so members know you are using a human meter now

Let me check in the morning, apologies I just put my laptop away. Only have my phone as I’m getting ready for bed. I fixed it on the world version maybe it didn’t copy over… I’ll fix in the morning

No problem at all :bighug::cat:

@NadineTheodore
Hi Nadine
I do not see it changed on the US tab
I see you put this on the world tab
SWITCHED TO FSL for 9-11-2024
Plus you have to change the 2 last numbers on the spreadsheet

The dark green should be
50 - 99
And the lime green should be
BG<50

Since you are using a human meter

should be okay now
@NadineTheodore
Sorry it's not , nothing has changed on the US tab

I do not see it changed on the US tab yet

I see you put this on the world tab
SWITCHED TO FSL for 9-11-2024
So you have to do the same on the US tab above the date 9-11-2024 like you did on the World Tab and highlight it
Plus you have to change the 2 last numbers on the spreadsheet, they are not changed yet

The dark green should be
50 - 99
