Good evening,

I just did another furshot. :( Exactly two weeks after the last furshot. I feel quite horrible because this is really a bad time to mess up with the infection in her body and the ketones being high the last days. Her bg was also high all day, almost always above 300. I felt the needle going in but my fingers got wet when I pressed the bevel down. Seems like the needle was going out somewhere. I hope her ketones are not spiking to the moon tonight. I have to do my best now to be kind to myself. It is so stressful anyway.

We started our day well. Binie was outside during the night and in good spirits. Ketones went down to 0.2 mmol/dl at amps. I was really happy to see her like that. In the afternoon suddenly she started to hide again. I gave her pain meds but seems like it didn't make a difference. It is really hard for me to tell, what is going on. Now she is out on the terrrasse but I can see she is not happy.

I am glad she takes the antibiotics without problems. I hope they make a difference fast.

I did a lot of research yesterday to find this second (and last possible) antibiotic in case this one is not working. I am surprised how difficult it is to find. If I don't find anything on the international market, I will end up using the Geman vet product for pigs, which means injecting it four times a day. I hope that is not necessary.

I also found some research about multiresistant germs and essential oils. It seems to be very promising but I found no research which oils are safe for cats and how to get these smelly oils into a cat.

Hope and despair are very close to each other these days.

Hope you all are well! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I’m so sorry about the fur shot. Seems like it’s never a good time to have one. But I understand what you are saying since Binie is so precarious right now :(
Please be forgiving of yourself. You are so stressed and that’s always more difficult. The next shot will be better :bighug:

I’m glad she had a good night last night. She really loves your terrace :)

I have read you have to be careful
With essential oils and cats. Although I’m not familiar myself.

I hope you can find the other antibiotic you are looking for. I wonder why it’s so hard to find?
Is it available in the US that you know of?
Is your vet trying to get it for you? Can they help?

It’s good news Binie is taking her current antibiotics well. I really hope and pray they work well for her.
Sending you lots of peace and calm, healing vibes for you and Binie. She’s so lucky to have the best Mum ever caring for her.
Wishing you both a very restful night ahead with lots of healing for sweet Binie :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci,

thank you for you kind words! Yes, essential oils and cats is something to be very careful about. In Germany we had many poisoned cats because of tea tree oil. Some people think that everything which is natural must be o.k. for cats but I know that it is not. But I think it is worth to dive into it a bit deeper, maybe there are safe options.

About the second antibiotic: I finally found out what the problem is after my last post. The antibiotic is not approved for humans in Germany and the EU. In the US it is but the use is very restricted. So everytime I search the products on the websites of the international pharmacys in Germany, they tell me they don't have it. The reason seems to be, they are not allowed to sell it because of German regulations. There is a workaround which sounds quite complicated. It is called "named-patients-import" and for that the vet has to testify why there are no other options to treat the patient. I don't know if we will be successful with that, because there is a vet product available in Germany and the "only" problem is, that it will be difficult to injet it four times a day. But it is worth a try. I am sure my vet will help but this seems to be a new situation for them as well and they also did some research on friday but didn't come that far in the time they had. My friend who called while I did the research was a bit more pragmatic and suggested the black market but I think I rather stay with the legal options for now. :)

Hope you enjoy your day ! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
